There are so many different recipes that are easy to follow, with clear, colorful photos.

Format: Perfect Paperback
Who knew that lavender was so versatile? Kathy Gehrt shows that this perfect flower can be used in many recipes from cocktails to appetizers to side and main dishes and desserts and each recipe sounds more tantalizing than the last. Most of the recipes are easy to make and don't take long. I love it when I don't have to spend hours on a recipe. I've made three recipes from the book already and I can tell this is a book I'll use again and again. Also, the pictures by Brian Smale are so delightful, the book practically begs to be given to foodie friends. I've already given away two copies. I recommend this for anyone who enjoys cooking with fresh foods and is ready for something deliciously different.

Format: Perfect Paperback Verified Purchase
This little recipe book would be wonderful for anybody interested in finding lots of lavender resources as well as recipes for using the lavender buds/flowers. In these areas, I would have given this book 5 stars hands down.

I was particularly interested in more ideas and recipes for making use of the abundance of lavender leaves instead of the flowers. As a result, the 4 recipes I located using leaves left me a bit disappointed in my personal purchase.

Brian Smale's photography is phenomenal. There is eye candy here for any lover of lavender.

Another strength this book seems to have over other recipe books I have purchased would be a great section on drinks---both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. That section alone takes up pages 37 through 60.

A standing ovation for Kathy Gehrt! What thought and research have gone into her "Discover Cooking with Lavender" .... from her splendid choice of simple to make yet elegant recipes to the beautiful layout and illustrations.
After trying just one of her recipes, I feel I have indeed started on a whole new adventure in cooking with those purple flowers that I thought were just for sachets! This is one charming little book that I guarantee anyone who
has fun cooking will move to the top of their cookbook collection. A new and exciting meaning for Flower Power!

Kathy Gehrt's Discover Cooking with Lavender is as beautiful, subtle, and appealing as its focal herb. Strikingly and lavishly illustrated with outstanding color photos, this delightful cookbook is filled with mouth-watering recipes from beginning to end.

But beyond the taste tempting treats that she highlights, exploring the world of lavender in this volume leads to pleasant surprises on many other levels also. Concise and well organized, it offers fascinating and useful background in its "From Garden top Table" chapter, covering both the cultural context of lavender and botanical lore on this exotic member of the mint family. In this same section, she sets forth, simply and accessibly, three fundamental techniques - infusions, baking, and dry roasting - that enable the reader to create a multitude of delectable dishes, from the simple to the sophisticated.

Well-indexed, and including a useful "Pantry" section on local and internet lavender sources and resources, this book is sure to appeal to cooks of all levels, from novices to practitioners of nouvelle cuisine.
