4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Everworld...the characters seem to be maturing
These are not normally the types of books I tend to read, but I have to admit I'm enjoying this series. Though there are still things I don't like (too much swearing, too much inuendo, etc) the basic story and the writing are getting better. In this segment of the adventure we have circled back to David so he tells the story as the five kids (David, Christopher, April,...

3.0 out of 5 stars A good Everworld book
If I could, I would probably give this book three and a half stars, because it is the best Everworld book so far.It had an intresting plot and a more complex misson then the first three ( I haven't read #4) and I really liked the dragon, Nidhoggur and the time limit he puts on them by exchanging their hearts for rubies. 4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Everworld...the characters seem to be maturing, February 25, 2001
This review is from: Discover The Destroyer (Everworld #5) (Paperback)
These are not normally the types of books I tend to read, but I have to admit I'm enjoying this series. Though there are still things I don't like (too much swearing, too much inuendo, etc) the basic story and the writing are getting better. In this segment of the adventure we have circled back to David so he tells the story as the five kids (David, Christopher, April, Jalil, and Senna) continue their adventure. The story basically picks up right where the last one left off, as they are facing the dragon Nidoggher. He replaces David, Christopher, April and Jalil's hearts with rubies that will keep them alive for no more than six days, and in that time period they have to go and get a few of Nidoggher's things that were stolen by Leprechaens, and then if they succeed he will give them their hearts' back. So, they head in the direction of Fairy Land and along the way meet a nymph, some satyrs and plenty of other interesting characters. This book was somewhat less intense than the previous four, and it was even somewhat lighthearted at times, a welcome change from the depressing direction the earlier books were taking. This one made me truly eager also to read the next one as soon as I can find it, though that should be hard because I live on a cold, miserable Alaskan island where we are lucky even to have a Walmart, much less even a mediocore bookstore. Oh Well. The major cliffhanger remains, what will happen to them in the land of Ka Anor? I have a feeling that Ka Anor and the Hetwan are the real villians and that eventually that will dominate the storyline even more than the current 'will they find their way back to their own universe?' storyline. I'm all for that! I love epic battles. Also in the future I'd like to see Greek mythology explored more and more spotlight on April, who is the most interesting to me so far. David and Christopher are annoying, especially Christopher, and while Jalil is also a fascinating character it's downright scary to know what he's thinking. Especially when they go into so much detail about his Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. (shudder) Anyway, this was a really good book, but I wouldn't recommend it to people who havn't read this previous ones first, since otherwise it will make no sense whatsoever. Also, these books are very intense and defenitely not for young children. I'm fifteen and some of it still scares me. I would definitely not recommend them to anyone under 13 or so.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book is the best!, May 10, 2000

If you are looking for an exciting and a dangerous adventure, this is the book for you. David, Christopher, April and Jalil have a journey to get Galahad's gold back from some leprechauns who stole the gold. There is only one problem. Sena, another member of the group, is the reason why they can not go back to their homes. I thought this book was interesting because the characters were brave and show respect to each other. The book was well written. The author writes clearly so that the reader can understand the story well. So if you want to find out if the five kids are going to make it back to their home or not, READ THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars They just keep getting better and better.., January 3, 2000

and Discover the Destroyer doesn't break from tradition. The "Everworlders" plus Senna have six days to get back a dragon's things, but when Senna gets April captured (DELIBERATELY!) it really complicates things. Jalil and David come up with the one possible solution, but Senna stands in the way. And David's the only one who can overrule her. Better than ever, and now David has a whole new dimension.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good Everworld book, July 26, 2000
This review is from: Discover The Destroyer (Everworld #5) (Paperback)
If I could, I would probably give this book three and a half stars, because it is the best Everworld book so far.It had an intresting plot and a more complex misson then the first three ( I haven't read #4) and I really liked the dragon, Nidhoggur and the time limit he puts on them by exchanging their hearts for rubies. I still prefer Animorphs to Everworld, probably because I identify a lot more with Animorphs' characters. But if you like a fantasy/adventure story with some real life bits thrown in, read it, even if you haven't read #1. I don't think it matters too much what order you read Everworld in unlike Animorphs, as i read them totally backwards and still found it understandable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, March 1, 2000
This review is from: Discover The Destroyer (Everworld #5) (Paperback)
This book has to be one of the best Ever World books for two reasons. One, I love the series and two it takes an in-depth look at how the peoples of this strange dimension think and co-exist with such gods as Loki, Hel, and Ka Anor.

I think this book was great and all, because of the adventure and suspense of the book. The four kids' hearts are all turned into rubies, by the dragon Nidoggher. They must fulfill their task requsted by the powerful dragon, so that their hearts will turn into hearts and not stay as ribies. It's very exciting how the story unfolds and ends. I recomend that you read this book, if your an Animorph lover.

4.0 out of 5 stars A perfect continuation, April 21, 2000
This review is from: Discover The Destroyer (Everworld #5) (Paperback)
If theres one thing K.A. Applegate does well is continue a story you know should be over by then, and make it really interesting. This was a perfect continuation of the story, bring in the deal between the kids and Nid(I cant spell the rest of his name!) to journey to fairy land and recover his "prized" posessions. If I were an adult I dont think I could pull of the thoughts of a teenager, but Kathryn does it well. Sometimes David bothers me sometimes though. I think the way the kids think of a plan is better than anything I could of thought of. The things that K.A. thinks of are really imaginative. Like how the kids use a bit of electricity to make a teglegraph,a simple device by our standards, to give the fairies a thrill and help themselves. So the short book kept me on my toes reading about how they just barely escape death once again by giving Nid a taste of his own medicine. hehehe

5.0 out of 5 stars K.A.A. Has done it again!, January 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Discover The Destroyer (Everworld #5) (Paperback)
This book was as good as the others. In the book David, April, Jalil, and Christopher get their hearts replaced by rubies that will give them life for six days. They have to get back the dragons four things before they get their hearts back. They travel to fairy land to get his things back from lepercauns. Read the book to find out what happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Everworld Book!, May 17, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Discover The Destroyer (Everworld #5) (Paperback)
This is by far the best Everworld book. David and the gang meet Ngjjodr, a vvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy big dragon near the underworld. He could have burnt them to a crisp but instead he made a deal with them. If they could get his 4 stolen treasures back in 6 days, the ruby he put in the place in their hearts won't burn them. If the 6 day time period ends, David, Chrisropher, Jalil, and April will be burned. As David and the others travel through fairy land, they must find out a way to force the King and Queen to give Ngjjodr back his treasures. If you have read the previous 4 Everworld books, you will find this as the best of the bunch.
