Excellent for G.L.J. fans!,
By Mrs. Fresh (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews

I have been a Gene Loves Jezebel fan since the eighties, however I have lost touch of them in recent years. I recently purchased the two-cd editions of Discover, Immigrant, and Promise, and have been delighted with my purchases. The second cd for each one has brought back the reason I liked the band in the first place, containing plenty of rarities and songs previously unavailable on cd. They also include new photos, lyrics, and stories from members of the band. If you have been a fan of this G.L.J. era then you will be very pleased!!! Hope they re-release House of Dolls with extras!!!

Gene Loves Jezebel is definitely a great band! They are among the best bands from the 90's. All GLJ albuns I listened to so far are good. Highly recommended. Don't miss it!

If Immigrant was the perfect balance of the Aston twins' bizarre, yelping vocal stylings and their band's expertly delivered post-punk, then Discover was just a slightly glossier, more approachable brand of perfection. Flawless singles like "Heartache,"
"Desire" and "Sweetest Thing" are joined by almost-as-good gems like "Over the Rooftops," "Kick" and "Brand New Moon." The music has become almost stadium-sized by now, thanks in part to the addition of Mick Ronson-worshipping guitarist James Stevenson to the lineup, but the Jezebels still maintain their patented auras of dark mystery. Strange, sublime, and utterly unique pop music. The reissue is well-worth it for fans! The disc of rarities is packed with long-lost artifacts of this inspired time.

The album that put the group on the New Wave map, Discover has some of the greatest GLJ songs from their "proper" career (before the Michael and Jay family feud).
You've got extended versions of Desire, Sweetest Thing, Heartache, and some hard-to-find songs such as Psycho2 and Suspicion (albeit its the original version). Sad to say that the Vagabond in this collection is not the version I was looking for, but still it is worthy purchase for collectors and new wave fans.

I loved this band in the 80's and found out they are playing in Cleveland this coming week. I will be there and can't wait. This time, though, Jay will be without Michael, as they have had some troubles over the years. Jay is the lead singer and it should be a great show.
