All introverts and all extraverts should read this book...,
By Brian Rawlings (Arizona) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Discover the Power of Introversion: What Most Introverts Are Never Told & Extraverts Learn the Hard Way (Spiral-bound)
While this book was not the sole source of information that changed my life, marriage, outlook, and public demeanor, it was certainly the largest part in a major turning point in my life that has immeasurably improved many relationships that I hold dear, including between me and my wife.I had taken the MBTI personality indicator class/test, and showed up as strongly extraverted. The MBTI explanation sessions and study put this into context, but would have only changed some surface areas of my interactions with my peers at work, doubtless for the better but of small impact. The tester/advisor loaned me a copy of this book, since I had shown up so strongly extraverted, and many of my colleagues were showing up as introverts. I read it on an airplane flight, which was long enough to allow me to read it all in one sitting (it is not very long, which is my only negative point about the book). I had a couple of days sitting in a hotel to think about it and reread it. The understanding of the introvert/extravert issue(s) came home much more than it had through days of lessons and explanation, and I'm sure I improved my relationship with many of my colleagues from that point on, but that was just the gravy. What really happened is that I got home, sat my very introverted wife down, and appologized profusely to her for all of the stupid, insensitive things I had done over the years, assuming all the time that "everybody looks at things and reacts to things pretty much like I do", a typical extravert way of thinking. I had her read the book, and it was a total revalation to her where many of the stressors in her life came from, and that her reaction to things was completely normal (for an introvert). All her life she had felt that she was just wierd and out of step. Most introverts get that impression, since there are so many more extraverts. This book literally changed my life, vastly, for the better, and every person should take an hour or two and read it. It helps both personality types (sorry for the oversimplification), and can utterly change your perceptions of everything that goes on around you. I can't recommend it highly enough.

although i can't disagree with anything she wrote, I found this book far to brief. Not very helpful.
