I loved this book! It contains several timed tests for you to give yourself and then you figure your results and the book lists tons of carreer choices for your own specific abilities- according to how much formal education you have. I bought this book when I was an older teen, took it then-loved it, took it again as a thirty-something married mom and still found it helpful. I found it interesting that some of my abilities changed over time- some better, some not as good. I highly recommend this book to anyone- especially if you are searching for some direction or would like to know what you are fully capable of!

I ran across this book quite a few years ago when I was teaching a class for some women and helping them get a good grasp on what they would like to do with their lives. Then I came to a spot in my life when I needed to re-evaluate the same thing for myself and ordered this book. It is amazing at helping you see where your strengths are and what path you would be best to follow.

I took the tests for fun a few years ago (the book was from a friend). I love my current career but have had several others some of which I liked and some of which I loathed; this book helped me see the why. The results were astounding to me. The job I have now (pediatrician) and a previous job that I loved (system's analyst)were on my list. The jobs that I disliked (engineer and jobs involved with being primed for executive management at a large corporation) were not. I was amazed and have purchased this book for several people, which is what I'm currently doing here at Amazon.com.

I have been using this book for career counseling for graduating seniors in high school and young adults for over 20 years. Of course, I have updated my version since there are careers available now that weren't even dreamed of then. Linda Gale has re-published the book a few times to be current.

Almost every person I have proctored this test for has had an aptitude test previously but this book identifies something subtly different. This is not an "aptitude test" defined what you can do well....this test defined what you would "love" to do if given the opportunity. I think, if we can assume that God has created each of us with a unique set of gifts, that there is a career out there that matches those gifts. If we can focus in on those, we can find a job where we are fulfilled, despite people that are difficult and other typical job challenges.

So, having used this dozens of times, and tracking career/life fulfillment with the test takers over 20 years...I'd rate this 5-stars. It is a brief exam, about as long as a feature film. While not nearly as comprehensive as "What Color is Your Parachute" or others, "Discover" comes up with a group of careers, education specific, that can direct an educational track or career search in about 3-hours.

An excellent investment, INHO.

I just finished with this book after solving the six categories of tests and scoring myself. I then tallied my highest categories and looked up the careers recommended for a person of my talents. Believe it or not, at the graduate level ALL of the careers recommended were those of a scientist or science intensive. Yeah, imagine that. Not one non scientific career. Now guess what? I am a young physician-scientist and I DONT like my job at all. How wrong can the recommendations get! Been there, done that and know for sure that this isnt the field for me.

My genuine interest is finance and banking and while I got a well above average score in the business test, several questions seemed to rely on knowledge one would be expected to glean from an MBA or by working in the business world, and not any innate ability. Having never gone to B School or worked in a Business Industry, I felt short changed. Whats more, a test remarkably similar to this one had been administered at my school when I was in the tenth grade and I was told that I was most suited to a career in science.Ironically enough now I know that that is the one career I can say for sure isnt the one for me. Go figure!

This book helped me so much. Was at a point in my teaching career where I thought I'd wasted 12 years. Took the battery of tests one weekend and found that I was exactly where I belonged, but at the wrong level. Switched to a higher level and breezed through the next 21 years, loving every moment of it. I've recommended this to many people and plan to use it soon to help a relative who is in a "what do I do now?" situation. Try it!

Wish I read this 35 years ago. Fortunately, the book identified my ideal career as the one I've been doing all along! However, it did point out two alternate careers where I would shine, one of which I never thought of. This is a book I buy over and over, to give to others. Recently a young friend said he was interested in getting into the "Emergency Management" field. I told him to take this test first.
