5.0 out of 5 stars Useful perspectives on performance management, May 7, 2009

This review is from: Discover Your Inner Strength (Paperback)
As an organizational development specialist, I'm always looking for new insights into how best to help business people develop leadership skills. Covey, Blanchard, Tracy and Bandrowski, et al, offer complementary perspectives on leadership, motivation, and performance management that I found very useful and will use in my work. I particularly liked Jim Bandrowski's "amplitude" paradigm as a framework for managing both passionate positive and constructive negativity toward improving performance and encouraging innovation. Definitely worth reading.

Discover Your Inner Strength

Discover Your Inner Strength has a variety of interesting interviews that any business person can benefit from. In particular, I connected with Joy Klepac's writing as we are both moms, running our own businesses and inspired by our daughters. If you're looking for inspiration to motivate you to keep going, this book will help you find your inner strength to accomplish all that you want.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leadership amplitude, June 19, 2009
This review is from: Discover Your Inner Strength (Paperback)
I am reviewing this book because I am a business client of one of the authors (Jim Bandrowski) and I was interested to learn about his latest insights. In Chapter 12, Jim describes how highly effective leaders have characteristic cycles of what he calls "Intellectual Amplitude" and "Emotional Amplitude," and how they can drive or smother an organization's "Innovation Amplitude." This is a very powerful insight that has not been described anywhere else. Not only does it explain why some organizations succeed while others fail, it is also a concept that can be taught and learnt to improve the performance of leaders and their organizations. Jim has long taught companies how to achieve breakthroughs. In the book "Discover Your Inner Strength," Jim has himself achieved a significant breakthrough in management science.
The book as a whole is very interesting, but not all chapters are quite as strong. However, until Jim Bandrowski publishes his next book devoted to what he calls "Leadership Amplitude," it is worth buying this book to learn about this topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gained insights from many well known authors, May 26, 2009

I enjoyed reading and greatly benefited from Discover Your Inner Strength. Gaining insights from so many well known authors all in one book was wonderful. And I particularly liked the interview approach to each chapter.

« Stephen Covey (Seven Habits of Highly Effective People) presented "A Value-Based Approach"

« Ken Blanchard (One Minute Manager) discussed "Attitude is Everything"

« Brian Tracy (Million Dollar Habits) explained "Using Strategy to Discover Your Inner Strength"

« Jim Bandrowski (Corporate Imagination Plus) presented how to "Discover Your Inner Leader," and how Amplitude is the key to high performance in all aspects of business.

Some of the chapters were better than others. All in all, I recommend the book highly to anyone trying to find and leverage what they are great at, but just haven't quite found it yet. Or if you already know what your strength is, this book tells you how to amplify it and take it to the next level.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for personal development!, May 5, 2009
This review is from: Discover Your Inner Strength (Paperback)
An eminently relevant book, that presents both time and challenge-tested insights and wisdom, but also fresh perspectives that I haven't seen before. One example is Jim Bandrowski's chapter. I've read ALOT of leadership books and I had many "a-ha" moments reading his original take on what makes a good leader breakthrough personal and professional barriers to be truly exceptional. My highlighter got a work-out! A must add to your leadership and management library.

5.0 out of 5 stars An OUTSTANDING resource!!, April 17, 2009

This review is from: Discover Your Inner Strength (Paperback)
Naturally any periodical with the combined authorship of Stephen Covey, Ken Blanchard, and Brian Tracy is a must read to strengthen your corporate resources. But what a delightfully strong contribution by Jim Bandrowski! I enjoyed the perspectives of all of the authors. However, the chapter by Jim on discovering your inner leader really expanded my perception of his theory of AMPLITUDE and how to actively apply it to my own life. As an entrepreneur I am open to all avenues of industry and applying the theory and practice of AMPLITUDE to each of the areas I'm currently involved in was eye opening! I not only learned where my weaknesses originated from, I learned where I could increase my strengths so that I can increase my own global presence. Clearly, Jim has developed the key to industry with his chapter. After contacting his office, I learned that Jim originally introduced the theory of AMPLITUDE in his first book - Corporate Imagination - PLUS! and that he will be authoring an entire tome on the subject of AMPLITUDE, expounding on the arenas (which are infinite) that AMPLITUDE can be utilized on. From business, to personal interests, to sports, to personal relationships, the whole gamut can be reconstructed utilizing the theory of AMPLITUDE to become stronger contributions to your life. I am very much looking forward to his next book, and I'm hanging onto my copy of Discover as a solid reference. Buy your own!
