An excellent overview of world history told in am engaging and easy-to-read style. This book is required reading for our homeschooled high-schoolers. In our home school, we take an interdisciplinary approach to teaching the various academic studies, believing that all topics of study are intertwined and connected to each other. This book does the same. It divides human history into segments of discovery: time, earth history, natural history, society and traces the impact that each of these discoveries has on all the areas of human study. Each segment naturally leads chronologically and philosophically into the next segment.

I haven't read the whole book yet, but I am enjoying each discovery. My only complaint would be that the print is tiny; but if it were larger, this already thick paperback would be even thicker!

Daniel Boorstin is one of my favorite historians. I read his books in the 90s, and although I was well versed in world history, his clear writing style, and unique talent for making the connections between seemingly far flung events, personalities, and creations opened up a new way of thinking about our world and ways we interact with it.

I used to like Boorstin until I discovered he was just a glorified academic who masturbated while turning the pages of mediocre dicks who had nothing better to do all day but say s***, and once in a while were sort of right.

Very interesting read on the discoveries of mankind. The discussion of time and the inventions developed to make our lives subject to it are worth the price.
