I bought this when only the import version was available and it was $20. It was well worth it! Great song structure, great production. If you like the samples, you will love the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Discovery January 18, 2013
By Bill
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
My first exposure to Northlane was the song "Discoveries" and I instantly fell in love with it. It's a soothing acoustic song to start with and slowly builds momentum to end with a heavy breakdown. The song is brilliant. I previewed some of the other songs and thought I'd enjoy the album as a whole so I bought it. While "Discoveries" is a unique song on the album, it's not the only song I liked. It took me a couple times listening to it to really gain a fond like for the album, but now it's one of my favorites. The singer has a good range of screaming, high and low and soft, and the rest of the band performs brilliantly with their instruments to create sections that are heavy, but not saturated with breakdowns (they're used sparingly), and lined with creative riffs.

I give the album 5 stars because I wasn't disappointed with any of the songs. Northlane does a great job at keeping your attention. The more you listen to it, and the closer you pay attention to the songs, the more you like them. I said I really liked "Discoveries", but I would also highly recommend "Metamorphosis" to get a preview of the album. In the end, I'd recommend picking up a copy. It's great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Metal album of the year? September 6, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I cant believe I'm the first to review this album on Amazon. I purchased it about a month ago after watching the official music video "Dispossession" and was instantly hooked. The musicianship on this album is over the top. Each musician compliments the others perfectly. The music style is hard to confine in one genre, although its obviously metal through and through with jaw dropping riffs and earth shattering breakdowns(the middle of "Comatose" comes to mind). It's a mixture of djent, metalcore, prog metal, some ambiance. Time signatures and chord progressions remind me somewhat of Misery Signals, but don't get me wrong these guys are definitely unique. I REALLY enjoy the vocals. The guy has a very wide range, from beautiful cleans to singing screams to some of the best low growls I've heard from a metal band in a while. Best thing is he actually sings about things that matter, and he does it with passion(the song "I shook hands with death" has one of the most epic/passionate passages I've heard in any song). Bottom line: If you listen to metal, do yourself a favor and buy this(don't pirate plz. musicians need to make a living too so they keep pumping out albums like this).

5.0 out of 5 stars Way better than expected March 23, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I bought this album out of boredom. I didn't expect much out of it at all. But this is one of the best albums
I've bought in awhile. If you like bands like ERRA, BORN OF OSIRIS, VEIL OF MAYA, AND THE VOLUMES then this is right up your alley. It may even be better than all of those.
