Oldies instrumental compilations are a dime a dozen. Making this piece more interesting is its running the gamut of musical styles of the era - rock, jazz, Dixieland, exotica, Latin and then some.

Where this really shines though, is in two more ways. First is the appearance of rarely, if ever, found sides such as Steve Allen's "Gravy Waltz", Spencer Ross' (actually Robert Mersey) "Tracy's Theme" and the Islanders' "Enchanted Sea". Even more appealing is that every track is in full stereo and here we are treated to the first-time stereo availability of Duane Eddy's signature "Rebel Rouser", Reg Owen's "Manhattan Spiritual" and Johnny and the Hurricanes' "Reveille Rock". The sound of "...Spiritual" with its drums in your face is worth the price of the disc alone. Sound quality is superb throughout - as good or better as can be found for these tracks anywhere.

The liner notes booklet contains background on each track on the CD and was written by Cub Koda of Discoveries Magazine. Though, as oldies compilation CD's go, it may be considered just a tad stingy on the track count, this is a superbly executed mix of tunes that invites the listener to crank the volume and play over and over. Unequivocally a must-get for fans of the genre.
