In this guide to the explorers of Egyptian antiquities and their discoveries, David begins her survey of the discoverers with the classical writer Herodotus (484-430 B.C.) so that she is able to refer to many findings that were later pillaged and unavailable to more contemporary archaeologists. The section on the sites is encyclopedic in arrangement, though admittedly not comprehensive. This treasure trove for researchers concludes with a helpful summation of Egyptian history from the predynastic period (5000-3100 B.C.) to the Greco-Roman period (332 B.C.-A.D.641).
