Gr. 1-3. These two books from the I Like Science! series introduce the occupations of volcanologist and paleontologist. Simple text and color photographs follow a scientist in the field. Also included is general information about the scientists' respective fields of study. The books conclude with hands-on activities: Visiting Volcanoes gives step-by-step instructions on making a model volcano that will erupt using common household materials; Discovering Dinosaurs instructs kids on how to re-create a plant fossil using a leaf, paper, and pencil. Both books have a glossary and suggestions for further study. Informative, solid introductions to subjects of high interest to young readers. Ed Sullivan
