Editorial Reviews

Review

Terms are well defined and one is pleased with the crisp, direct description of the arguments. The tone of the book is one which keeps the reader interested and challenged. This is the right book for those seeking, but even Christians can have their minds and hearts enlightened by some of the topics in this volume.. . .it does an admirable task of covering many of the current questions that inquirers may have. It is a gateway book for questioners of the faith. That is how impressed I am with the message and structure of this book. It is an excellent tool! --- Donald K. Wood, M.D. for The Journal of the Christian Medical and Dental Society

From the Author

Based on this book and its forerunner I have received literally hundreds of emails from strangers saying something to the effect, "I've never believed in God until now. But after reading this book...." It's amazing to think that most agnostic or atheistic people are completely unaware of the main reasons for faith!

When I did not expect it, God brought this book to my attention. Having embraced atheism for my entire adult life, I eagerly first turned to the chapter addressing atheism. While reading, sitting at my kitchen table, God used this book to open my mind to the reality of his presence. When I at last realized He was real, I can only describe my reaction as feeling like somehow I'd come home after a long, weary absence. I have now spent nearly 8 years in His presence, and it keeps getting better and better!

Like so many other 20-somethings that live in America, I grew up in a quasi-religious home with vague Christian undertones. I quickly became jaded about religion and "truth" as I grew older in light of all the competing world-views and religious hypocrites. Atheism seemed to be the logical conclusion. A friend gave this book to me a number of years ago and asked me to read it. I was skeptical. But I have to say that this book really changed my mind. It's straight forward, honest, and accurate. McCallum isn't pulling any punches, and he doesn't need to, because the evidence is valid and reasonable. I'm happy to say that this book played a part in meeting the true God for myself. It isn't exhaustive, but it's a great start. It's the go-to book that I give to other people that are interested in knowing why we should believe anything spiritual and on what basis should we do so.

This book is excellently titled, Discovering God. That is what happens, discovery. This short book felt more like a conversation someone would have about whether or not God could be there. It is very concise, honest, and brings up evidence that a lot of people probably have not heard, let alone considered, with humility and frankness.

The best part for me is that the God this book points to, the one the Bible talks about, really seems worth discovering: compassionate, just, personal, and wanting to be discovered!

"Discovering God" is a great book for the seeker learning more about the evidence for God and the Christian faith, and the Christian believer who is looking for solid reason for their faith. This is the perfect book to give a friend who is seeking for answers about God and Christianity. It's a quick read, and can be read front to back in a few hours. I have a few copies on hand ready to give to people who show interest in learning more about God. This book has also been a great reference to the big questions, like: Biblical validity, prophecy, problem of evil, other religions and many more. I own the Kindle copy of this book on my iPod touch, and bust it out whenever I have a thought about a big question. A must have!

I really enjoyed reading McCallum's book. Whether you are searching to find faith, newly discovering it, or steadfast in a belief, Discovering God: Exploring the Possibilities of Faith, is a must read. It is a quick read and really gets to the point without wasting any time. It is simple, reasonable, rational argument for God and what he has planned for your life. For 99 cents, the kindle version is perfect to read anywhere. If you are considering buying it, just spend the dollar and really discover for yourself answers to some of life's biggest questions.

This is a great book! Its short enough to get through quickly but it still lays out a lot of good arguments for the existence of God. The sections on fulfilled prophecy in the Bible are pretty amazing. I can't believe more people aren't aware of some of this stuff! The chapter on objections to Christianity deals with the reliability of the Bible, the problem of evil, Christianity and science, etc... really good topics for conversation.

This book is a great thing to read, regardless of if you have been a Christian your whole life or if you are just wondering if there might be some truth out there. For most of my life, I did not believe there was any truth to the Bible; thankfully, evidence like this has forced me to re-evaluate the inconsistencies in what I had believed. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

While not a Mere Christianity, Discovering God is a thoughtful look at God, faith and humanity. It will give you a reasonable look at Faith, which is a beginning. This would be helpful to so many American Christian's who have not grown in the Faith. Also helpful for young people heading off to life.
