Editorial Reviews

Review

"A wise and well-informed psychiatrist has taken the time to really listen to what his patients are saying. The stories they told helped him to guide their healing, spiritually. Psychiatry literally means treatment of the psyche, and psyche means soul. Thank you, Dr. Jarmon, for this insightful book that integrates the concept of the soul in treating patients." -- Daniel A. Zelling, M.D., past editor-in-chief of American Journal of Hypnoanalysis

"A wonderfully written book by a loving human being and kindred spirit -- it speaks from the heart and soul ... A highly readable masterpiece!" -- Alan M. Matez, D.O., former chairman of the Board of the American Academy of Medical Hypnoanalysts

"Discovering the Soul" is an exceptional book for all the right reasons: it is well written, authoritative and compassionate. -- Reincarnation Internat'l, Oct. 1997

"Dr. Jarmon's book is a good example of the new direction in which the study of the paranormal is moving. What he writes is a plain demonstration that we ordinary folk can recognize and understand life-changing, paranormal, and spiritual experiences. I like his way of proceeding: show people that the paranormal is accessible, and permit them to open up to the extraordinary alternate realities that are an important part of being human." -- Raymond Moody, M.D., author of Life After Life and The Light Beyond

"Dr. Jarmon's very courageous and fascinating book opens a new dimension in the healing arts. I would highly recommend it." -- Richard S. Rhee, M.D., F.A.A.N., President of the New Jersey Academy of Neurology

"Dr. Jarmon, a renowned psychiatrist, describes his patients' encounters with their souls and, in doing so, shows the lay reader and the therapist alike how working with such concepts can be just as real and often more effective than any other modern psychotherapeutic approach." -- Gerald Jampolsky, M.D., author of Love Is Letting Go of Fear

"With the skill of a consummate storyteller, Dr. Jarmon has forged an important new chapter in the history of medical hypnotherapy. He writes with candor, clarity, and courage, providing answers to questions for those of us who find traditional views inadequate." -- Irene Hickman, D.O., author of Mind Probe Hypnosis and Remote Depossession

Dr. Jarmon is a brave, creative physician, daring to put his faith in God and prayer on the line. -- Venture Inward, May/June 1997

4.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful for those searching for meaning in their lives., July 7, 1998

This review is from: Discovering the Soul: The Amazing Findings of a Psychiatrist and His Patients (Paperback)
Most people are searching for the meaning of their lives when it often does not appear to have meaning. The cases cited by Dr. Jarmon reveal the ultimate lessons of the soul's journey. This book not only reveals the soul of the patient but also the soul of the physician. Many of us do not have the privilege to see the soulful side of the healers who struggle to help their patients heal and to grow in spirit. It is time for medicine to recover and to reveal its soul.

This book is as good as a Brian Weiss book. It gave me validity in believing reincarnation. It reveals true cases from Dr. Jarmon's patients...simply amazing! If you are on a spiritual path read this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the sake of balance, June 26, 2006
This review is from: Discovering the Soul: The Amazing Findings of a Psychiatrist and His Patients (Paperback)
I'd like to remark that the previous reviewer assumes guilt, which may or may not be the case. Dr. Jarmon's license to practice medicine has been restored, although he is no longer in psychiatry. As a former patient of his, I found him to be a fine therapist with very clear doctor-patient boundaries. Discovering the Soul was fascinating, but I can see how people already very familiar with the subject might not appreciate the book.
