This is definitely the BEST cruising guide that I've ever owned. Each of the many maps are annotated, for ease of reference. The restaurant reviews are consistent with our experiences, as are the descriptions of the places to visit and see.

THIS 1998 EDITION HAS BEEN UPDATED. We came out with a new second edition in May 2003; and amazon.com does carry it. However after six months of trying, we've been unsuccessful at getting amazon to reflect this on their websites. You can find this newer second edition on amazon, but you must type in the title field, and verbatim, "Discovering The Tidal Potomac, Second Edition." Better laid out, but color is gone. Still the best guide around.

My wife and I, along with our visiting children grand children and other family and friends have enjoyed boating on the Potomac for years. I just purchased Capt. Rhodes Second Edition, coming across it while searching the WEB last weekend for additional information on boating the Potomac and area waters.

I find the book reflects our experience and knowledge well, but more importantly is helping establish plans for a 2009 boating season that is just in front of us. I would add, the color is in Capt Rhodes writing. I read one paragraph, describing the proprietor of a marina we are very familiar with to our daughter on the phone. She lives almost 500 miles away but visits and boats with us often. She and our grand daughter, "Boating Girl" were immediately on Amazon ordering their copy and starting to dream of summer boating!
