I've been an entrepreneur since 1991. In the intervening sixteen years I've read a number of books about running my own business. None has struck me as deeply as Susan L. Reid's book, Discovering Your Inner Samurai: The Entrepreneurial Woman's Journey to Business Success.

Susan's descriptions, ideas, and client stories are engaging and draw you inward to your own inner voice that becomes such a powerful business partner when you know you can trust its message.

Although written for the new or inspiring entrepreneur, I found plenty of powerful tidbits sprinkled throughout the book. Even when I could nod my head in agreement during a particular passage or chapter, there was always a nugget of insight, a stunning new perspective, that gave me a new way to be in relationship with my own business.

Taken together, the nuggets I gained from Susan's book, help me stay in a natural, productive flow with my business success. The anxiety, fear, and frustration drop away as I focus inward and listen.

When I don't know an answer, I know I can ask a question and receive a wise answer in return...a wise answer from within that I can trust and allow to unfold in its own way and time.

Okay, so I have this dear friend who is so creative and talented in many ways. But even with all the encouragement given her, she's never taken the first step to bringing her talents to the world in a formal business setting. Until now. Susan L. Reid's book offers just the right amount of structure and preparedness with a resulting encouragement that leaves you feeling like you have just had a warm hug and a pat on the back. This is the book you want to give that person in your life who just needs some coaching (we, as friends have already done the coaxing) to inflate their sail to do what they do best.

This book is far more than a how-to guide for a woman beginning her own business! Although it is loaded with practical advice that is crucial to business success, it goes beyond that to help you know who you are and to encourage you to express that in your business. Susan teaches you how to listen to that voice inside that knows what is best for you - for little issues as well as the big ones. She includes great stories of women who have done it to make the concepts crystal clear. When you design a business for yourself from the inside out - you will have a business that you are passionate about and that cannot help but be successful.

This is definitely not your typical self-help entrepreneurial book. It's pages are filled with inspiration and enlightenment, encouraging you to listen to the inner you..your "Inner Samurai".

An easy read with great real life examples of how to apply the philosophy to your own situation. It's changing my life. I'm listening more to my Inner Samurai and it's leading me down a path I intuitively wanted to follow a few years ago, but had decided to pursue something else instead.

If there is one book that should be on all women entrepreneur's shelves - it's this one.

In all of the self-help books I have read, (and there have been so, so many) I have never read one that has had such an impact, or that I was so compelled to keep on reading to the end. The first time through, I didn't even take time to hi-lite, I just wanted to absorb all of the accounts and information. When I read the part about "Multiple Streams of Passion" I nearly cried realizing that she was writing about me. Susan said, "My journey is your journey!" At first I thought "yeah right", but now I realize how true that is. Thank you Susan. I can hardly wait for your next book!

This book is a must read for any entrepreneurial woman, and indeed, is a valuable guide to any woman. While women are the intended audience, men reading this book will gain valuable insight into their partners, friends and colleagues that will help them relate to and support these women.

Reid guides the reader through the most essential part of starting a business: preparing herself! Reid's gentle insightfulness helps the reader explore her own thoughts and feelings that pertain to business and personal success. Each chapter holds new gems that help unfold the readers potential and remove self-created barriers. Reid inspires, guides and empowers readers to greater self-awareness and greater success.

Susan's style of writing, "mi viaje es tu viaje", "My journey is your journey" enrolled me right from the beginning. Knowing about her entrepreneurial journey allowed opening for me to reflect on my own entrepreneurial journey.
Each chapter had a specific focus. What cemented the facts were the wonderful stories she shared ... I love stories. Stories remind me that what is possible for others, is possible for me.

Susan addresses the practical, emotional, psychological AND spiritual aspects women face as entrepreneurs. Her own courage to step out of tradition and "follow her heart" is inspiring. This is a must read for anyone wanting to follow a dream and start a business! You won't be able to stop reading until the end!!

Have you ever been sad to read the last page of a book? That's how I felt after finishing Discovering Your Inner Samurai. I felt like we'd been having this great conversation and I didn't want it to end.

Women entrepreneurs face many of the same challenges men do, but there are also extra hurdles women sometimes have to overcome. Very often, the answers we need lie within ourselves, but we don't trust that knowing voice, that Inner Samurai.

Susan Reid takes you along her journey, as well as the journey of other women entrepreneurs. Not only is this a wonderful "how to" book, it also offers the support and encouragement we women entrepreneurs so desperately need.

It's nice in world where so many of those around us say "you can't" to hear someone say "You can."
