Book Description

2003 EPIC Award Finalist for Best Sci-Fi/Paranormal Romance

He helps his E.T. to call home...but can he let her go?

Following a horrendous breakup with his two (and three) timing fiancee, Oregon naturalist Dr. Kent Xavier has sworn off women, all women. He heads out into the Deschutes wilderness to brood, alone, but his solitary trip turns into a midnight rescue mission for a damsel in distress.

Lured by the beauty of planet Earth, Povre disobeys strict orders to remain in camp in favor of a moonlight walk. A bad step on a slope of loose rocks lands her in the very predicament she's supposed to avoid: contact with the dominant native lifeforms.

Forced together by mutual need, Kent and Povre soon find themselves on the run from alien-hunting government agents. Along the way these two scientists from very different worlds discover the most important element of all - love.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Discovery -  A Far Out Romance was one of my favorite stories to write. When I first moved to Oregon I had trouble finding an apartment I could afford that would allow me to have my dogs (at that time, two Jack Russell terriers.)  SO... despite it being winter/early spring, I lived in a tent in various locations between the Deschutes National Forest outside Bend (where a friend lived, making it handy to grab a shower before work) and Eugene (where a sister lived). Every location in the story; the weather, the bright nights with or without a moon, the tree Povre hugs, the U of O, even the house on "Agate Street" (which is a real street but the real house is actually a few blocks over and where my sister used to live) is a location I experienced.

I was writing stories about the blue-furry Sirgel race since 1974 or so, so for the readers who think current blockbuster movies and suchlike were the inspiration, let the record show that I didn't get the idea from James Cameron or even from Star Trek the Original Series. If anything can be blamed, it was probaby "Super Friends" since my original Sirgel characters were twins pretty much like the Wonder Twins in appearance, except blue and slightly furry. (Just in appearance, they didn't have superpowers, heheheh.)  Hopefully, one day, I will dust off the adventures of who are now Povre's great-great-great something kids and make them suitable for public consumption.

I hope you enjoy this story!

4.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of romance January 19, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Dr. Kent Xavier just wants to get away from his cheating he heads out to camp in the Oregon wilderness. Povre wants to take a walk in the beautiful Earth moonlight. What keeps this from being a classic damsel in distress is saved by the handsome stranger romance is that Povre is blue, furry, and alien.

T.M. Roy does a great job making the reader see the beauty of the Oregon landscape. She develops interesting characters and an unusual circumstance. The story isn't just a romance, it's also a little bit of action/adventure.

A completely enjoyable read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alien eyes January 31, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
The descriptions of the Oregon wilderness make you want to go and live in the wild! T.M. Roy does a fantastic job of showing the world we know through alien eyes. The premise of there being aliens among us isn't new but Roy's spin is fresh and fun. How easily can a furry blue alien blend into humanoid society? Not very. Povre is in for some rude encounters and it's a fast paced ride while she's on them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful April 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first book I have read by this author, and I found it delightful. It is a short novella that is fun and a little improbable maybe with the Heros' quick exceptence of the alien but still a very good read. I enjoyed it very much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun odd couple romance January 30, 2011
By scarlet
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
T.M Roy's book about a truly odd couple (Oregon professor Kent Xavier and blue alien visiting Earth Povre) is a fun read with romance, adventure and humor. The couple bond as Kent tries to keep Povre out of the clutches of government agents while hoping that her people manage to rescue her. The action is deftly split between scenes of on Earth, and aboard the ship that brought Povre to Earth. The characters are well written and believable with the relationships between them ringing true. While the story may seem cliche (alien on Earth needs rescuing from the big bad government agency), T.M. makes it fresh and takes it in interesting directions. She has a nice turn of phrase and writes in an enjoyable style. The rescue of Povre has a bit of a Deus Ex Machina feel, but that's a slight quibble, as she does set it up better than most. The ending leaves the work open for a sequel and I'm really hoping one is forthcoming.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous sic-fi romance! I loved it! June 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Discovery- A Far Out Romance was a fantastic book to read. The romance was an integral part of the plot and the sex scenes were well-written and demonstrated the growing love between Povre (Povresle) and Kent. Povre and Kent were scientists and were both intensely curious and entirely free of xenophobia. Their personalities are so complex and three-dimensional that they almost leaped out of the pages. The imagery was absolutely fantastic; it was vivid, graphic and so completely realistic that I felt entirely immersed in the story. The dialogue was both captivating and authentic; it often had me smiling with delight or crying along with them. Altogether, this story was a wonderful reading experience and if I could have given it more than five stars, I would have. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable tale! December 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I must first start this review in saying that science fiction is not a type of book I normally read. However, I was intrigued by the romance aspect, so I decided to try it!

The author has two very well-drawn characters and really taps in well to their emotions. The story of two people being star-crossed lovers is an old story, but one that works well here, especially with the star-crossed part being fairly literal and not metaphoric! I really enjoyed the tale of their romance and how their story was woven. Very well developed and written.

I also have to give an extra kudos to what is almost another character in the book - Mother Nature herself. It's obvious that the author has a great admiration and love for the outdoors. The descriptions of the Oregon wilderness are simply breathtaking. It certainly made this reader (who is NOT an outdoorsy sort of person) want to pull on her backpack and go trekking in the beauty that is the forests of Oregon.

A well-written and crafted story. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars very enjoyable November 9, 2004
A wonderful mix of science-fiction and romance, and just the right touch of humor. This was a very enjoyable read. Terran Moffat's skill with both dialogue and description pulled me into the story; it was very hard to put this book down. I definitely want more!! For now I just have to settle for a 7-Layer Burrito from Taco Bell ...

What a delightful novel! The characters were well-rounded and extremely likeable. I also appreciated the effort that was put into Povre's native language. In addition, the plot was intriguing and I didn't want to stop reading. I'm looking forward to more from this author!

A refreshingly different take on man meets alien. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and it's characters. Too bad it probably hits the government response right on the button too. Read more

An enjoyable afternoon's read. It's a pleasant romance between different species; while not sensational it is nice, and logically plotted.
