I got this toy for my nine-year-old daughter for Christmas. She was very excited and started putting it together right away. She started having trouble almost immediately because the screws wouldn't go in. I tried using our own screwdriver because the screws were getting stripped, but to no avail. She tried to go on to the other steps but the directions were very poor and she accidentally pulled the wires out and started crying in frustration. We tried hot gluing it back together and finally did get it put together somewhat, but it barely moved. Total piece of junk. I am going to call the company and try to get my money back since from what I've read all the models are just as bad.

1.0 out of 5 stars Impressively bad..., April 4, 2010

The Discover Kids Biped EZ has too many badly designed elements. You need to take care to hold certain pieces in place while putting them together otherwise they will break. The included screwdriver, while a nice item to get you started, simply isn't good enough for the job; you'll need a screwdriver that will give you much better traction and leverage otherwise you'll end up threading the screws. The instructions fail to mention the step of screwing the motor piece to the backplate. The remote itself does not work at all. Adult supervision and help WILL be a requirement with this kit.

BTW, the only reason I have this is because it was on clearance for less than five at a local drugstore and even at that price, I felt it was a ripoff. It should not be bought, PERIOD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for 8+ year olds!, February 28, 2010

This is a horribly designed toy. The screws are extremely hard to turn into their sockets. Neither of my children were able to construct them by themselves. The screws strip easily and the instructions skip important steps.

First of all, my child could not put this together. The screws would not go into the holes with out first using a tiny screwdriver to widen them. Once (with my help), he finally got it put together, he got to use it a few times and then his little brother dropped it and it came all apart. It was only dropped about 3 feet. Luckily, I had accidently ordered 2 in the holiday season confusion of crazy last minute orders, so we did put the other one together, and that one has been kept up away from the small children. It is still just as flimsy, but has lasted a little longer. All that being said, my child loved putting them together (even with help), and he really enjoys being able to show off that he built it. His friends are impressed that he can explain to him exactly how it works!

1.0 out of 5 stars Looked cool, turned out very disappointing!, January 9, 2010

My little boy received this for his 6th birthday and was very excited. Brand new out of the package and the robot had two left sides and no right side pieces. Impossible to put together, my son was heartbroken. Called the company, they were very nice and said that they would send us the missing pieces. They did, but was 2 months later! By the time it got here my son just wanted Dad to put it together for him, he had lost interest in the building and just wanted to play with it. Dad got it together, runs for a few seconds, then stops. The remote control did not work at all. Even though it's not worth the effort I'm still trying to get ahold of the company again because I think they need to know their products are junk!

My 10-year-old son got this for Christmas. Within a half hour of attempting to construct it, he stripped two screws with the provided screwdriver. Luckily, extra screws were provided. Because of the manual gymnastics required for assembly, I took over with a screwdriver of my own. It was extremely difficult to balance the components and hold them together while working on the toy. {I was employed wiring electrical panels in college. I'm no stranger to small screws or assembly.} I soon discovered why I was having so much trouble -- the directions skipped a step wherein two screws are to be used to hold the gearbox and frame together. That was fine. I was able to undo a step or two and get it together, only to find out that if you build it as they suggest, two screws rub against the inside of the legs, keeping them from moving. The thing now walks -- poorly -- and pays no mind to the remote control. (The directions say "please refer to the battery installation instructions" to set whether the robot works in remote or automatic mode, but those are nowhere to be found!)

So basically, my son got a half-baked idea with cheap parts for Christmas. He's 10 and feels like he did something wrong because he couldn't finish it and now that it's done, it's more suited to a four-year-old, who might enjoy watching it walk independent of controls.

Save your money and your child's tears.
