It broke within hours of giving it to my nephew.

The built-in screen lights up but does not show any images, so there's no way to see what you're shooting.

While this camera is made by Discovery, it REALLY is made just for the kids.

pros:

1) it's plenty cheap

2) chances are the kids won't hurt themselves with this thing because the smallest part is the 6" hand strap (until you get a memory card, anyway)

3) reasonably versatile for kids, yet toggling through the modes is a teeny confusing simply because the power button also toggles will take care of switching among the modes

4) the "time-out" is probably 60 to 120 seconds, so at least it saves on battery life

cons:

1) the nightvision function is a couple of teeny lightbulbs that light up under the lens face. The kids generally won't care of course, but for anyone looking for a cheap GENUINE nightvision cam, it's best to look elsewhere ;)

2) AGAIN, the "time-out" is probably 60 to 120 seconds, so if you leave it alone for any mode (except for
video), you'll have to keep turning it on

3) the display is SMALL, like maybe 1.5" x 1.5"

All things considered, I would gladly recommend this cam to parents with kids who want a camera/recorder, or to anyone else who doesn't NEED an expensive camera/video recorder.

My 7 and 5 year old love this. I did buy my at a discount and can see that it is not worth the full retail price ( but nothing ever is). You do need a memory card and batteries and a little technical know-how (where to plug in the USB/AV cords) The sound is just fine when using the AV cable plugged into your tv, don't use the camcorder by itself for viewing or listening. The microphone is on the front so be careful not to cover it with your hand. I feel sorry for the other reviewers who don't get as much enjoyment out of this as my kids do. My advice would be to make sure you read the easy to follow instructions. Have fun.

This is a way cool toy---again it is a toy, it is not going to by the quality of a 400.00 camcorder, but this is great to keep the kids away from mom and dads 400.00 camcorder.

This product is a perfect toy for kids. It does just enough to keep the younger ones from trying out your real camera :) That being said if they like to push buttons randomly or have younger siblings that like pushing buttons keep the instruction manual handy. The menu language changes easily and it can be tricky to get it back to English! Currently there are no online instructions for this product!

I was unhappy with the camcorder, some of the LED lights on the front didnt light up. When this was ordered they did not say it was a kids camcorder. My wife was kind of disappointed when she opened the package. The batteries drain very fast, we used our for 2 hours and the batteries already dies. The microphone is in the front so be careful when holding the item so that you do not muffle the sound.

My son loved this kids' camcorder, until it became unusable after only two days. The built-in screen lights up but does not show any images, so there's no way to see what you're shooting. Very disappointing; a waste of money.

Purchased this at Costco as a Christmas present for a 3rd grader. Only made one short video and it quit working. We tried new batteries and a new memory card, but like other reviewers the viewing screen remains dark and it pretty much stopped working. So basically after 36 hours it broke. Avoid it and find a better reviewed one.

This is the little camera that couldn't. I got this camera on amazon .com The cost was too good to be true and yes it was. I payed more in shipping than cost for the camera. When I got the camera I read the directions like always. I put in the batteries and went to insert the SD disk. This is where it all went down hill. The SD disk didn't go in all the way nor seat its self in the camera. Then the on button didn't even start up the camera. I did everything I could think of after reading the insturctions over and over again. I trouble shoot the camera for days then I gave up. Now the camera that was too good to be true is sitting in it's box in the corner. Why didn't I send it back? The camera would have been more trouble and cost than it was worth getting it. So I got burnt at the cost of $9.99 for the camera and $17.99 S&H. Isn't the 1st time and I hope it's the last. In the words of Forest Gump "That's all I got to say about that".
