Pretty better than expected,
This review is from: Discovery Exclusive Chrome Shift Roboreptile Robotic Reptile Green Chrome By WowWee (Toy)
As alerted in many other reviews, he has two major defects - 1) performance of walking on carpet and 2) unwrapping.
As for walking on carpet, his 2 or 4-leg forward movement in fast speed and walking turn works well even on carpet. On the contrary rear movement, slow walking and stationary turns are almost impossible. I recommend fast walking and walking turn while playing on carpet. If you get bamboo or wooden stitched mat, lay it on the carpet and play roboreptile on it. His wakling performance will be greatly enhanced. As for his second, unwrapping him from the box can be completed within 20 - 25 minutes with Philips screw driver, long nose wrench and cutter knife if you have an experience on another WOWEE robots. He is tied with four plastic-coated wires on his body and two bolts underneath his feet. So unwrapping is not painful so long as you can use your implements skillfully. His major caveats lie in different characteristics: First of all, it is too dangerous to leave him with kids under 5 years. The speed and amplitude of his head and tail movement is quite fast and large. Moreover, the sweeping motion of his legs doesn't give us a room to grasp him while walking. Beware potential pinch or strike on face!!! Make sure to let him played by adults or over fifteens. NEVER LET HIM UNATTENDED WITH KIDS WHILE WALKING! The second caveat is his size and speed - this may be subject opinion, but I feel he is so fast and long that we need enough space even in case of flat floor without carpet. Parking lot without car around or courtyard under fine weather is the best place to play him. Fine ground is of course a essential requirement. Another bothering is that you have to hold and fasten subduing helmet after putting it on. His furious head-banging while he gets tranquilized often throws it away. In addition, make sure to read manual before playing. It helps you to understand him better and let you escape from monotonous feeling with only 10-bottoned remote controller. OF COURSE, HE IS THE BEST LIFE-LIKE CREATURE AMONG ALL WOWEE ROBOTS, AND MINI ROBOREPTILE IS THE BEST AMONG ALL WOWEE MINI VERSIONS!!!! Finally, I would like to point out that his original retail price is too expensive. Take the change of big sale such as X-mas or Thanksgiving. Above price($49.99 excluding shipping cost) is good!!!

I ordered this for my Grandson for Christmas and when it arived I took it out of it's box to see how it worked... And let me tell you I was amazed by how life like it was and how it can roam around the house on it's own. My Grandson was having so much fun he didnt care about any of his other gifts. I would suggest this to anyone who has a young kid or even for them selfs. I know that I'm now going to be buying one for my self.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Chromashift Robotreptile. The complexity and range of its movements and behaviours, combined with its surprising speed and agility, make this a real masterpiece of engineering, and at this $59 price, I think it's an absolute steal. The chromashift paint is visually so much more interesting than the more typical white and black version, too.
My wife and I had a lot of fun playing with the Robotreptile, though our two cats were less thrilled when we showed it to them, and our dog quickly decided he wanted nothing more than to get away from it. I guess the Robotreptile lives up to its fierce appearance! I would highly recommend this toy for anyone who enjoys and appreciates quality engineering, robots, or dinosaurs. Just keep it away from very small children, it is too loud, agressive, and fast-moving and might scare them. -Gnobuddy

First, I was wondering if this is a robot targeting adults or a toy robot for kids to play with. When I actually saw the toy at Sharper image and at the discovery store, it was incredible. It is definitively a new innovation! I bought 2 of these for my nephews, and they just love it. Even girls wants one these. I think I am going to order one today and give one to her on Christmas. I just went to this product's website and they have a cool games and things to download.

Like a lot of parents, i was somewhat put off by the price tag... and Little Sharptooth eats a HUGE amount of batteries (one full day of play... my 11-year-old son estimated 6 to 8 hours of "Training"- drained his batteries to the point where they had to be replaced!)... but the toy is FASCINATING. Roboreptile explores, investigates, runs, hops and rocks back to rear up on his back legs to roar... and he doesn't like dark rooms. He can "see" and "hear"... the possibilities for play are endless. An added bonus was my son reading the entire manual, studying it from cover to cover to learn the best way to "Train" his new pet. Yes, the toy REALLY IS Educational... hats off to the inventive folks at WowWee!!

We bought our 11 year old granddaughter a roboreptile for Christmas. All the family, Mom and Dad included, loved it. Our older granddaughter was having a birthday a week after Christmas and really wanted a roboreptile of her own. Christmas night I got on the internet and searched for another roboreptile. I was thrilled when I found the same one in a different color. The wars between roboreptiles could soon begin. Our 8 year old is the master handler. It has been great fun not just for the children but for the adults as well. Keep plenty of batteries on hand!

My grandsons love the Roboreptile in the unique color which shifts as you look at the toy from different angles. The reptile responds well to the remote and has a wide variety of exciting actions. A great buy of a very unique toy!

I think I enjoy playing with this as much as my 8 year old some. And the dog loves it too! We put it in it's automatic mode and watch the two of them play together!

My daughter really liked it because it's very realistic, except the eagle scream. You can feed it virtually (and it makes a bone-crunching noise), and it has three modes. And she likes the fact that it can walk around, and chase things. It also goes to sleep when you put the hood on it. It also has a touch sensor, so it responds when you touch it.

We don't own a LONG Philips head screwdriver, so we couldn't unscrew the rotoreptile from it's useless stand. The rest of the packaging is a bit much as well.
The reptile however is really great! It walks/runs a little slower then expected after reading some other comments here, but the neck and tail movement is really fluid. I'd be interested in buying the human version I saw advertised as well. Lots of fun for kids and adults! |
