Discovery, Smart Animals are GREAT!!
I have 3 Grand sons. I first brout the scanopedia when the oldest was 7 1/2 yrs old. Now he's 10 and the youngest just turned 8. All 3 boys, ages 8, 9 and 10 never get tired of this toy. The only problem I had was finding more animals for them to play with with.

disappointing
I keep getting these toys for my son because they are perfect for his likes/interests, but we have had problems with the animals not scanning, so he cannot "unlock" some of the quizzes & facts. We just got these particular ones (the dinosaur 6 pack), and none of them have broken yet. We had problems with antlers, etc. breaking on some of the other scanopedia animals...

I keep getting these toys for my son because they are perfect for his likes/interests, but we have had problems with the animals not scanning, so he cannot "unlock" some of the quizzes & facts. We just got these particular ones (the dinosaur 6 pack), and none of them have broken yet. We had problems with antlers, etc. breaking on some of the other scanopedia animals.
And don't get me started on the "Smartmap." (The Smartmap, by the way, does not come with this pack; it's sold separately.) It would take a really serious kid to keep this thing from getting ripped over time. So the concept of these toys is great, awesome, really neat, but the performance is disappointing. I may try to contact the company this time around about the dinosaur that doesn't scan.
