As my seven-year-old said, "It's bad when you don't know how to use it, but once you figure it out it's the best present ever!" My husband, seven-year-old, and nine-year-old spent 20 minutes or so trying to figure out how to send messages. Once they got the kinks worked out, my girls have been sending each other messages almost non-stop. It's not very user-friendly at first, but if you can buckle down and figure it out, it's a lot of fun. They aren't using all of the features (telephone directory, etc.), just the texting. I can't speak for range, but it works throughout our house.

I bought these for my 6 year old twins. They are very difficult to use. I could not believe it was a toy intended for children. A kids toys does not need all the crazy extra features. They do not need a personal organizer. Its for Text Messaging. There are so many buttons that they are so small which is also difficult for little fingers. The print of the letters is so tiny next to the buttons. Sometimes I wonder if the toy manufacturers have ever met a child. My twins wanted to use this for playing spy. Its too difficult so they are going back to their walkie talkies!

My daughter asked ofr these for christmas, and after reading the review I hesitated, but because they were cheap enough I decided to order them.. Not so good, they do work dont get me wrong but its a bit hard to understand, and remember the steps to just text not something that a 7-8 yr old should have to worry about.. I would'nt waste your money or time on these..

I bought this toy for my 4 year old son. I love it, He is learning how to spell his name and he actually takes the time to type his and a little message to his sister. They spend hours playing with toy. I will recommend this to anyone.

It looked like it could have been a fun toy. Picked it up at Costco for $6.97 before Christmas but one of the units would not work no matter what we tried. When we returned it to Costco yesterday, there were not any left to exchange for. I came to Amazon thinking I might get another set but the reviews of the pink model have me pretty wary. I'll pass for now.
