5.0 out of 5 stars worth every penny! December 21, 2010
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I expected the player to start right after turning it on without being connected to the computer, but it didn't. However, pushing the (green) music button and holding it down for a couple of seconds turned the machine on. Then to have it play, you press the (green) music button (aka play button) again. I really like this for the kids and was going to return it until I figured out how to turn it on. The instruction manual doesn't explain this sadly, so hopefully this will help you too.

5.0 out of 5 stars My little girl loves this toy December 22, 2010
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I have a two year old and she just got this toy for Christmas. She loves this toy and carries all around the house. I was able to buy a 4GB memory card and download MP3 songs from Amazon. Seems the price on Amazon is overpriced, I bought this toy from Best buy on sale for 19 bucks. The only thing that you need to know is the battery holder is hard to get on because it has a spring, but once you get them in there they last a good while. The other thing is how to turn it on. You have to hold the green button down till it lights up, then again to start the music. Other then those two things this is a great toy and plays very well. It is in stereo, but sounds great especially considering this is only a toy. A must buy for your little one, just shop around because Amazon over charges.

I got this for my baby niece. She loves music and dances to the Single Ladies video. I was able to put that song on this player. It makes a great sound. I, at first, had the same problem listed in previous reviews that the player wouldn't play unless it was plugged into the computer. I accidentally discovered that once you unplug it from the computer it will come on with the "on" button on the back in the on position and then *hold down the green play button for a couple of seconds. I think this is a protection to keep it from getting bumped and turning on easily...A VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL TO LEAVE OUT OF THE INSTRUCTIONS AS I'VE READ MANY REVIEWS FROM PEOPLE BEING FRUSTRATED OVER THIS AND RETURNING IT. Some units work well after that and some have other issues. It sounds great and I was able to take some songs off and add some popular songs she knows from the radio. In all there are 20 original songs and I kept 11 of them then I added over 22 of my own tunes without buying an SD card. If you want more music, you can buy up to 8 GB SD card and add lots of music to it, but it will be difficult to find the music on the player because the player always starts at the beginning tune and you have to advance through the tunes one at a time until you find the one that you want. You cannot navigate through folders or anything like that.

My problem now is that if the unit is barely tapped or set down without SPECIAL care, the unit shuts off. This is a flaw and I will have to return the unit unless I find a solution. For the moment I am looking for a solution first. If I can get a good player, I will be very pleased because it is designed to do exactly what I want and it is easy for her to operate and it sounds good...I just need a unit that isn't flawed.

4.0 out of 5 stars figured it out, now love it January 21, 2011
I've had the same issues, but after playing with this for a while I was able to turn it on by pushing both the Stop and Play at once. Once I got past the ridiculously difficult task of getting the batteries in, then returning it to the store for another one since I could not get it to play, that is when I figured out you can turn it on by pushing both Stop and Play at the same time (ofourse after you turn it on on the back.) After downloading more popular songs, I gave one to my nephew. My nephew carries around with him all of the time, boppin' his head around and humming. Too cute!!! So cute that when they went on sale again I bought three more and gave them to 3 friends to give to their kids.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk June 27, 2011
Durability: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 1.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
This music player was a gift from my mother for my daughter's birthday. I was so excited because I thought it would be the perfect gift for a two year old. The battery cover was difficult to open and close as other reviewers have stated. However, the real problem is that we were never able to get the thing to work for more than a second. To be precise: we got the screen to come on twice, for about 3 seconds each time. It never played even a note of music.

We tried everything we could think of -- different batteries, different battery configuration, shaking, threatening, cursing, time-out -- nothing worked! Because it was ordered online from another state and because the gift-giver was out of town for three months, AND because I, trying to be efficient, had immediately recycled the packaging, the chance of returning/exchanging the thing was exceedingly unlikely. I decided to open it up and see if I could solve the mystery myself. It was no small task. I had to use a jewelers precision screwdriver set and needle-nose pliers, but after an hour teasing out the embedded screws I popped the thing open and found that the two halves came apart completely!

Here's the deal: the battery compartment is attached to one half and all the works... the screen, the memory card slot, the port, the chip, everything... are attached to the other half of the shell. There was a loose wide grey ribbon coming from the battery compartment attached to nothing! After some investigation I found where it was supposed to be soldered and glued to and there was very little (no) glue residue. If anyone else out there is wondering why their unit does not work, or works intermittently, but they don't want to sacrifice their chance at a return, now you know.
