5.0 out of 5 stars Great music, great performance, great sound. July 10, 1999

This is one great alblum. Great upbeat music. Every song is great. Recording is just about perfect...except a bit heavy on bass. On a high detail sound system, it sings!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brunch Music October 21, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Larry Carlton is a very talented guy. He has played not only as a solo perfomer but has done much session work. In order to do a lot of session work, a musician has to be first-rate. There's not much time in the studio for many mistakes and you have to be able to understand the music, play it well and even improvise. It's well known that Larry Carlton did some great work with Steely Dan and The Crusaders. He's played on over 3,000 sessions with various musicians. Music credentials, however, do not necesarily guarantee listener satisfaction. One reason for this is that tastes differ among individuals. My view of this release is that it's just fine as background music for a Sunday morning brunch. The acoustic guitar is played very competently, as one would expect from Larry Carlton, but most of the compositions leave me empty. It's pleasant, but not soul-stirring, musical fare. Two notable exceptions are Knock on Wood and Minute by Minute.

Knock on Wood was a soul hit for Eddie Floyd back in the 1960s. Carlton really plays this with feeling and I think the CD is worth buying for this song alone. His rendition of Minute by Minute by the Doobie Brothers is also played with a lot of feeling. So, I do not regret the purchase that I made many years ago.

The fidelity is excellent here as this was mastered by Bernie Grundman.

I give this release 3.5 stars. I view most of the material as not particularly moving. Others may find it more compelling.

5.0 out of 5 stars not enough stars in the sky December 17, 2013
By lupo
Format:Audio CD
One of the greatest recording of the last century. The quality of the recording is staggering even for nowadays standard made in the famous Room 335, Burbank California. And the quality of the players, well, listen to yourself if you like and know about music. Otherwise you can always listen to brunch music.......
