These guys have been popular in Romania for a while now and it is absolutely FANTASTIC that the rest of the world is discovering them. They are one of the cleanest, most positive and just plain fun bands you're ever going to come across. Listen, sing along even if you dont know what you're saying. But most of all: dance. If you like Dragostea Din Tei you'll also love Despre Tine which was actually their first giant hit in Romania and won several awards from MTV Romania.

Oh... and just for those of you who were wondering: Vrei sa pleci dar nu ma (nu ma) iei means you want to leave but you wont take me.

Enjoy this music. There is a lot of great music in Romania. Anyone interested in finding out more about Romanian music should visit www.transsylvania_phoenix.de

BTW, if the price on this one scares you, you can just go with the 13.99 version that amazon offers as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun music, fast paced, great for dancing and original too!, November 20, 2004

We recently heard the song Dragostea Din Tei over my XM Satellite Radio while we were driving in our car. We had so much fun listening to it that when the DJ announced the name as being O-zone we ordered a copy from Amazon.com. The CD is expensive but worth the cost.

Overall the CD seems to have a strong Euro style to it while leaning towards the dance/club feel. Although I like several songs from the CD, my favorites are track #3 Dragostea Din Tei and track #8 Despre Tine. Most of the songs appear to be in Romanian, but with such a fun beat you quickly forget the language barrier.

I'd definitely recommend this CD to anyone who likes fast paced, up-beat new age music.

1 Star for Hurting Consumers' Rights...

This BMG import has a copy protection notice saying it is only compatible with "home audio" cd players, and less than 100% of other types of audio players. Additionally the label says it only plays degraded quality on Windows machines and not at all on Macs. The URL on the notice is www.bmg-copycontrol.info, which says their sales declined 2% and this will save them.

The copy protection looks like CDS-200 which installs the Midbar (recently bought by Macrovision) player onto your PC. There is an uninstaller on the CD, but your best option under XP if you accidentally allowed this to autoinstall is to do a system rollback to the previous system checkpoint.

Considering the genre of music, most USA users purchasing this are likely to want to play it on a portable music device. Be advised that the "defaults" on Exact Audio Copy and Easy CD-DA won't help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dragostea Din Tei, February 8, 2005

Ok I'm a born Romanian and absolutely adore this CD! Of course if you buy it when you happen to be visiting Romania you can get it for about $3 US, but save yourself a plane ticket and buy it on-line.

I've had this CD for about 2 years now and I still don't get tired of listening to it. The lyrics to it are just as fun as the beat. It's basically a nonsense love song (Dragostea Din Tei means Love from a Tei, which is a type of tree that my Romanian grandma makes tea out of it's leaves).

If you like the sound of Dragostea Din Tei, you'll love the rest of the CD because its full of songs with funky beats. The best thing about this song is that there's nothing that comes close to it stylistically.

It's the perfect CD to let loose to in the car! If you love dace and techno with a pop twist you will love this CD!

P.S. this just in, o-zone broke up as of January but the lead singer came over to the states and is releasing an english version of Dragostea Din Tei...since I can understand and love the original, its kinda a letdown to hear it translated becasue the lyrics aren't wacky-fun like they are in Romanian, but you guys might like it...its called Ma Ya Hi...google it

5.0 out of 5 stars more of this, July 28, 2004

O-Zone have more than the international No.1 hit Dragostea din tei. They are the first band singing in Romanian to have international success and this album proves why. It's versatile pop-dance music with some folk elements and provides a lot of fun. The songs are all very different. All songs have been written by Dan Balan of O-Zone - it's good to see that there are still artists who compose their own music. Keep on with all the good work O-Zone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good... but a little bad, February 22, 2005
This review is from: Disco Zone (Audio CD)
Ever since the infamous "Numa Numa Dance" video panned out across the internet, I've become addicted to the song "Dragostea Din Tei."

English is, of course, my mother tongue and while I'm semi-fluent in French, I cannot even begin to speak Romanian. However, the song was so catchy and fun that I instantly memorized the lyrics... in Romanian. I also spent time online looking up Romanian to English translations, and the song is actually a beautiful(if not slightly nonsensical)ode to passionate love.

I liked the song a lot, so I listened to some other songs on the album via internet sound clips, and all of them seem good. None seem comparable to "Dragostea Din Tei," though many of the songs sound similar. I liked the song so much, in fact, that if I've done my calculations right, I've played it over 500 times in the last 3 days and I'm not even remotely sick of it.

Anyways, I likED it. Make note of the "ed" in liked. Of course, I'm still a major fan of the Romanian version, but when I heard the group sing on the Today Show this morning, all hope of them ever succeeding in America crashed and burned. This song is going to flop, and it's going to flop HARD.

The English version is terrible. There were only two band members (who are virtually unidentifiable in the CD cover illustration) and only one had any real talent, but he didn't sing much. The other came across as a drunken cast member of a bad musical about Mexican gang members, with his lame attempts at being an "American popstar."

Also, the song was not called "Dragostea Din Tei" or "Love From the Linden Trees" but simply "The Mai-Iei Song" (like the internet's "Numa Numa Song"). The vocals were terrible and the outlandish lyrics comparing love to painting were laughable.

This is why I'm giving this EUROPEAN VERSION of the CD in its original Romanian 5 stars: so you won't buy the English version when it drops.

O-Zone are a great group, combining dance songs to some classical elements of their Romanian folklore. The vocals are amazing, especially Arsenie and Dan Balan's compositions are unlike anything I've heard so far. I sincerely hope that this CD is just a start to an amazing career for these three romanian artists, no one deserves it more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD - but go for the US Import (it's cheaper!), November 9, 2005

Disc-O-zone does not in any way fit into my collection. Tom Waits, PJ Harvey & Iggy all gave me filthy looks when I popped it into the player. However, a girl needs some fun music & this is it! Like many ppl, I bought this for "Dragostea Din Tei", but have since grown to like other tracks better (my new faves are the dance tune "Sarbatoarea Noptilor De Vara" & the ballad "Crede-ma"). To be honest, I prolly like it more b/c I have no idea what is being said; all too often (for me) great tunes are ruined by stupid lyrics, so its possible that if this were in English, I'd hate it or be too critical.

In short, the melodies are fantastic, well produced and not boring. Its brainless fun that makes you smile, and makes a slow day go by faster.

Its too bad that O-zone is no longer together, and that Dan Balan, O-zone's founder, has moved on to mainstream rock.

Hah, this CD rocks. I can't believe I could actually get a hold of it in Canada. Definate 5/5 if you are into techno.
