5.0 out of 5 stars Global Sensation - Worth every penny

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but gets old quickly.
Don't get me wrong, I do like this disc. However, my younger sister loves it quite a bit more and after about 5 times through the cd on repeat, it gets annoying.

Good music, in small doses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Global Sensation - Worth every penny, February 22, 2005
This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
The song "Dragostea din Tei," translated into English as "Ma Ya Hi" (the last song on this CD), was released in the summer of 2003 at the MTV Music Awards in Romania. It was by far the best selling song in Romania that year, and in 2004 it crossed the borders to Italy and from there, to the rest of Europe. What followed was mass frenzy. Wherever the song got played, it topped the charts. From Madrid-Spain to Sydney-Australia and Tokyo-Japan, O-zone could be heard on the radio, either in Romanian or in various local languages. The song went straight to number 1 in Spain, Italy, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Greece, and Cyprus, but it was popular throughout the entire Old Continent.
This is the kind of dance pop music that makes headlines in Europe. In the US, there are no real comparable acts, but if you like Kylie Minogue's style, this is very similar. Europop at its best, the three-boy band O-zone has recently made a jump into the US, being featured on the Today Show (Feb 22 2005) and currently being played on Sirius satellite radio.
The songs are impressively produced, benefiting from the experience and talent of lead singer and songwriter of the band (Dan Balan), as well as from a number of mainly British DJs. Above all, these songs are truly catchy, well-manufactured pop. If you're into having a good time (at least occasionally), you shouldn't miss this one.
13 songs in all, mainly up-beat but with two memorable ballads. Includes the 3 uber-successful EuroTOP hits "Dragostea din Tei" (featured in the funny video found on-line with the guy dancing in his chair and lip-sync-ing), "Despre Tine" and "De ce plang chitarele".

5.0 out of 5 stars O-zone RULES!!!, July 24, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
Wow. Everyone's heard of the numu numa song, (I almost died writing that! It's called Dragostea Din Tei!) but you have to listen to the whole O-zone CD to get the full experience.

Even though I don't speak Romanian, I've found the translations online and trust me, the lyrics are as catchy in their language as they sound to us. Like most people have said, it is a great CD for cheering you up, but some of the songs are a little different. Oriunde ai fi is so beautiful! It almost made me cry the first time I listened to it. It translates to "Where ever you are, I will love you". Nu ma las de limba nostra (or I won't give up my language) always makes me think. Dar unde esti is lovely. It means "But where are you? I search for you in a dream, but where are you?" The music is very powerful. It can change your mood in an instant. My favorite is Sarbatoarea Noptilor de Vara.

It's so sad that O-zone broke up, but Radu and Arsenie still sing and they're very good, especially Radu. I highly recomend this CD and for more that Dragostea din tei.

5.0 out of 5 stars I just wanna dance dance dance!, October 25, 2005

Munkaloon (Metamora, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
Disc-O-zone does not in any way fit into my collection. Tom Waits, PJ Harvey & Iggy all gave me filthy looks when I popped it into the player. However, a girl needs some fun music & this is it! Like many ppl, I bought this for "Dragostea Din Tei", but have since grown to like other tracks better (my new faves are the dance tune "Sarbatoarea Noptilor De Vara" & the ballad "Crede-ma"). To be honest, I prolly like it more b/c I have no idea what is being said; all too often (for me) great tunes are ruined by stupid lyrics, so its possible that if this were in English, I'd hate it or be too critical.

In short, the melodies are fantastic, well produced and not boring. Its brainless fun that makes you smile, and makes a slow day go by faster.

Its too bad that O-zone is no longer together, and that Dan Balan, O-zone's founder, has moved on to gothe metal (yes - quite a 180 indeed).

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best groups ever., October 30, 2005

This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
I just ordered this cd today and I'm so anxious to get it. I discovered this group from watching a video that 3 guys made from the Numa numa song. I just loved it and loved the language. I researched that same day and found out they were O-Zone. I watched two videos from them and fell even more in love. They are so cute looking especially, Radu. Even though I can't understand what they are saying, their music is still amazing and unique. i love all kinds of music, but even more if it's foreign. I found out the next day that they weren't together anymore and that bummed me out. I thought, "Great, now that I find an awesome group they aren't together anymore." When did they even split up? Anywho, can't wait to recieve the cd!!!! Yay!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure joy!, February 12, 2007
This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
A person would have to be either hopelessly embittered or dead to not respond to this music! I got it because I am learning the Romanian language, and the lyrics are fun, beautiful, and clear. What a great surprise when it turned out that I loved all of the songs! This music is pure joy, and you can't sit still, even if you have never danced in your life. Their voices are exquisitely beautiful, and the melodies are amazingly complex. I am a musician...play cello...and I am going to transcribe these melodies for my instrument. Everyone here in America I share this music with falls in love with it, no matter what their age or tastes...this group was perfection! I am a hard rock fan, but these guys sold me in 5 seconds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soooo Catchy...., August 7, 2005
This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
I really can't recall how many times I've listened to this album... If I've had a bad day or am just not feeling very happy, I just have to pop it in and it's an instant mood lifter. Added bonus: I have a very musical mind & find that music is a great way to help you learn language, and this album has been very helpful in my studying Romanian. My best friend & I adore these guys so much and are really bummed that they have broken up! Here's hoping they'll reunite someday and we can see them in concert!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disco zone rocks., March 16, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
Great album by these young fellows from Romania. Didn't know they had it in them. I like all the song execpt the one titled " nu ma las de limba noastra". Is a little to slow to fit with the rest of the songs. Overall a great album. The bonus song "MA YA HI", is recorded a little to strong. The sound is a little distorted, but not bad. Will purchase other albums from O-ZONE if they record more. And that is my opinion on this matter. Thank you. Rock on Romania.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Catchy whether it's a ballad or dance song!, December 4, 2004
This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
Can you get any catchier music than this? Very European! This is American release! Every sound is addictive! You don't need to understand Romanian either to appreciate the quality of the music. The English version of Mai ai-hee is, as expected, not as good as the original. English translation can make the original song worse. That's why Kate Ryan never translated her #1 song "Disanchantee" from French to English, although all her other songs she did. The French lyrics is so poetric that it is almost impossible to have a straight translation to English!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic pop, November 9, 2007
This review is from: Discozone (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic dance pop album. It may have totally lame and stupid lyrics, but as I don't speak the language, I have no idea. In this case, the language barrier probably helps! Anyway, this whole album is nothing but fun, and if you enjoy fun, catchy music, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
