Product Description

The world standard for the sport of Ultimate, and official disc of the USA Ultimate Championship Series since 1991. With its contoured grip and aerodynamic engineering, the Ultra-Star has set the standard for quality, consistency, and performance.

Ultra-Star 175
What is Ultimate?

Ultimate is a fast paced, non-contact field game that combines the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football.

A game is played by two seven-player squads on a field similar to football. The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent's end zone. The disc may be advanced only by completing a pass to a teammate. A team may throw as many passes as they wish and possession is retained as long as the disc is in the air — although the thrower has only 10 seconds to release a pass. All turnovers result in an immediate change of possession and a change of direction of play.

Games are generally played to 15 points. Each point begins with a 'pull' from end zone to end zone and teams switch ends after each score.

I have 4 of these discs and I love each one. They never fail for any situation, from a random game of ultimate to needing something for your midget henchman to slice heads off with. This disc truly performs above the rest. The flight path is as clean and easy to predict as the cuts left in the flesh and bone of your enemies!

Even the simplest things have their science. Look at one of these without the fancy logos or paint, and it looks just like a whamo frisbee (or any other disc, really). But throw it once, and it becomes clear that things like weight distribution and exact components of the material make this item very superior to anything else that I have thrown over the years.

The title for this review says it all. These are simply the best frisbees money can buy. Wham-O frisbees have gone way down in quality over the years. The Wham-Os are now thin, flimsy, and the plastic is soft and easily warped and gouged. The Discrafts feel substantial, and are made from tough plastic. These babies really soar, too. I don't play Ultimate. I'm just a casual user. These are outstanding for playing regular throw and catch. I'm sure they are somehow specially suited to Ultimate, but they are perfect for everyday use, too. The Best, bar none.

So I've bought 4 ultradiscs at this point, two i bought at REI, the other two off amazon.

-if you're looking for a product made in the US, this is it
-if you're looking for a disc with an good balance of control, speed, and distance, this is it
-if you're looking for a disc that will last you for a good 5 years or (probably) more, so long as you don't chuck it at cement, trees or rooftops, this is it.

the first disc I bought got roofed a few years back, and since then I needed a new disc, I considered whamoo, but found their discs were super flimsy and when I've tossed them they have way too much float for my taste.

later I found the nite glow disc, and bought it of amazon, loved it, was just like my regular disc in shape/size/weight, and with age the glow improves. btw, the picture isn't exaggerated, the camera was just set at a very high film speed, I managed to get the same affect on my android phone by adjusting the ISO number to 1250.

I recently purchased the ultraviolet disc, and love it as well. again, it's the same shape/size/weight as all the other ultrastar discs. the color changes when exposed to sunlight, the higher the UV level the faster and more dramatic the change in color from white to purple (in low UV conditions, like a cloudy day the disc may only turn a light pink color). when changing it back to white, it changes a lot faster when put in absolute darkness rather than just putting it in the shade.

the only color i don't recommend is black, because on a hot summer day, the sunlight will actually cause the plastic of the disc to soften, thus allowing the disc to lose it's shape. My sister had a black disc, and although it looked cool, it was not good to leave it out in the sun.

Been playing ultimate on and off for over 20 years and I've always preferred the Discraft design over the Wham-O 175.

It flies very nice and it allows you to play after the sun sets. I just wish the glow in the dark time would last longer than it does. It does last for quite a while, but I don't think it would work the best for a game of night ultimate frisbee. It only takes a few seconds of light to charge the frisbee up for a short time; A car headlight works great for this.

I love playing frisbee and play ultimate frisbee on occasion. I don't believe there is much difference in the different brands of them but I use Discraft because it is the official one for the ultimate frisbee world. I bought the Ultra Violet one and it changes color fast with different shades of purple depending on if there's cloud cover or not. It's funny when your friends say, "Whoa I thought you had a white frisbee!" This is definitely the best Discraft frisbee unless there are others that I don't know of that change color like this one.
