Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - "No One Is"

Biography

Mirror Traffic is the new Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks album, recorded at LA’s Sunset Sound Studios and at the home of the album’s producer, Beck.
With the question of a Pavement reunion having been triumphantly answered last year with an Ono-esque “YES”, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks return with their most energized set to date. These 15 songs range from hard-rocking political commentary… Read more in Amazon's Stephen Malkmus Store

5.0 out of 5 stars can't wait for the entree, January 23, 2001

This review is from: Discretion Grove (Audio CD)
I thought that all 3 songs were awesome. The whole CD had a real refined flavor. 'Discretion Grove' had a definite Pavement smell (to me, anyways), which is to say that it's pretty good. 'Sin Taxi' is also a good time. I think any hardcore Pavement or Malkmus fans will really appreciate this CD. I for one can't wait for the...

One side note: did anybody notice that there was/is a 'live' version of Sin Taxi floating around Napster? Over the summer, I picked up a poorly recorded bootleg of this song that included Malkmus giving a whole introduction. I had forgotten all about it, but I recognized that beat within the first 15 seconds... What a great surprise!

4.0 out of 5 stars Must Have Malkmus, August 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Discretion Grove (Audio CD)
Will Malkmus continue in the tradition of Pavement and release excellent singles and EPs? It's too soon to tell, but this is a great indication of things to come. While Discretion Grove may have made for a mediocre single (it's still a great song), these two B-sides are top notch. "Leisurely Poison" is a short little bit of well structured indie-electronica; obviously an experimental track but one that succeeds, while "Sin Taxi" is a standard Malkmus solo track, but one that is relatively long and it is certainly good enough to have been on the album. That there are only two new tracks on this single is a bit disappointing, but at least they're stellar.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 great b sides, April 8, 2002
This review is from: Discretion Grove (Audio CD)
The best 2 b sides to come from the Malkmus singles.
leisurely poison always reminds me of a Beck b-side, and I'm not quite sure why? Neither of the songs are throw aways, certainly worth picking up for any big Malkmus of Pavement fan.
