Book Description

August 15, 1999 0632051671 978-0632051670 2
A concise and practical guide to goat medicine, this book is a readily accessible reference for veterinarians working with goats. It provides all those involved in caprine medicine with up-to-date information on clinical problems and surgical techniques. Each chapter starts with the initial assessment and clinical examination of the patient, together with further investigations, which may aid diagnosis, before considering specific diseases, their diagnosis, clinical signs and treatment.
Diseases of the Goat covers assessment, diagnosis, treatment and control of common clinical problems and includes chapters on anaesthesia, disbudding and dehorning, and plant poisoning.

Veterinary practitioners and surgeons will find this book invaluable, as will veterinary and agricultural students; it is a key reference source for goat farmers, breeders, indeed anyone involved in goat keeping.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for for goat vet, March 6, 2003
By
This review is from: Diseases of the Goat (Paperback)
I have just about every goat medicine and management book available and this is by far the best. Smith and Pugh are decent books, but when you need a quick answer Matthews is the best. This book is inexpensive, portable, and gives treatment options not found in the other texts. I am a veterinarian and see on an average of 10-15 small ruminants per week and this book is used constantly. I found the anaesthetic protocols particularly useful as I am not fond of using Xylazine in goats. There are few pictures, but the information is easily located and you don't have to wade through alot of useless albiet interesting informatin. This book may not be as useful to goat owners as for veterinarians, because it does assume a basic veterinary education. Any vet that works on small ruminants should have a copy of this book, and if you are a goat owner you may want to consider purchasing this as a gift for your veterinarian or at least showing them this review and encouraging them to buy a copy. I cannot reccommend this book highly enough for the small ruminant practitioner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference book for veterinarians, May 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Diseases of the Goat (Paperback)
"Diseases of the goat" is an excellent comprehensive reference manual for experienced goat herders and veterinarians alike. The book covers all major diseases and their treatments, and includes drug dosage recomendations. All drugs are listed with their generic and brand names. Some surgical proceedures are also discussed, and anesthetic dosages are discussed as well. This book is the first book I pull out when my veterinarian needs reference material on goats.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have, March 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Diseases of the Goat (Paperback)
I am always searching for information on goats, and this to me is a must have for any goat owners library. It takes you through each disease and breaks down signs symptoms as well as how to treat and the tests that are run in the lab for diagnosis. The only thing about it is a lot of the diseases that are discussed are in the UK, But we are seeing them in the US so it gives the owner a heads up.
