When I got it, I was so excited. It looked great online. However, when I tried it on it was, shall we say, not even close to what I thought it would look like. Sure, the design is the same, but it was so ridiculous looking! Very very cheap and you could even call it tacky. I was really surprised. It can't have cost them more than $10 to mass produce, and it really looks like it. The material is cheap, it was packaged poorly, and it just looked ridiculous. The petticoat they supply isn't a petticoat at all. It's actually just some fabric that reminded me of the cheap throwaway dressing gowns when I go to the OB/GYN. Made of practically the same stuff-easily ripable and NOT a petticoat. It didn't add any fullness to the dress whatsoever. The fit was awkward as well. I'm a size 6 so I picked a small and it fit everywhere but my arms, where it was super uncomfy. The awkward part was the petticoat- it's elasticized in the back but not in the front, and it was HUGE on me. I don't know how I could've kept it up. There was a hole in the bottom tier and some extra ink where it didn't belong from the pattern they put on the dress. Cheap central!
Needless to say, I didn't keep it. What a waste of money! Thank goodness I got mine back or I would've been really mad.
Other reviews gave ample warnings about the low quality of the product, and I got what I expected, happily for a reduced price. Based on reviews, I knew bodice couldn't possibly withstand a skating routine, so I ordered it intending to dismantle the garment & use printed skirt and notions, which I will attach to a home-made bodice.
Sure enough, as soon as the costume arrived my daughter tried it on and the bodice tore in half up the middle. Here's why - the fabric has no give, and is of the lowest quality possible, and so it tore instantly at the center seam. Doesn't matter - I didn't expect it to hold up, as I said, I'm using the buttons, lace and patterned skirt and will build a new bodice.
Note the following:
1. Bodice fabric is inflexible and tears easily.
2. White slip that comes with skirt is made of the fabric-like paper frequently used for recyclable shopping bags (we're talking cheap.) and has to be ironed.
3. There is no detail on the back of the dress - despite photo of the actress' back on the package, the black hem pattern doesn't appear on the back, and the lace on neckline is on the front only.
4. The fabric will tear apart if you launder it.
5. The fabric is plastic, so it will melt if you place even a cool iron directly on the fabric. You will have to iron it, it arrives a wrinkled mess, so use the coolest setting possible, and use a protective ironing cloth to manage the wrinkled mess you receive.
6. If you can buy anything else to suit your needs, do it. Don't go near this product.
In a nutshell, this costume was a huge waste of money and time. It looked like it was made for 15cents at a sweatshop overseas. Thanks for nothing DISNEY. You really let me down.
I ordered this costume to wear to work when we were celebrating Halloween. I thought this looked like a great costume since it was not so short or revealing for a work setting, yet it still looked cute. Then it arrived...
The materials in this dress are cheaper than cheap. The detail is only on the front; the fabric is almost like plastic and very hot and itchy. I can't imagine wearing it for an entire day which is what i had planned. Even an hour or two would have been difficult. The fit is funny - a little big in the shoulders and the waist is too high. The "Petticoat" is more like a skirt made of paper. It does arrive very wrinkled. I did not try to iron it but would have been afraid that it would melt if I had. Bottom line is don't be fooled by the picture. It looks NOTHING like that when you try it on.
Needless to say, I returned this costume and opted for a different Alice in Wonderland costume from a local costume store where I was able to try it on before purchasing it. The costume I purchased was MUCH cuter and a better quality and was around the same price. Unfortunately, I did have to pay to ship this one back, but I was never going to wear this thing so at least I got most of my money back.
Under no circumstances would I recommend this to anyone.
