3.0 out of 5 stars Fluff
Entertaining but barely touches the surface. Good general book if you aren't looking for a lot of details and don't know anything about nutrition, exercise, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a scene out of "Sex & The City", June 14, 2004
This review is from: The Dish: On Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous! (Hardcover)
Monday, June 14th, 10 PM. My boyfriend and I seat ourselves at a sidewalk table at "Cafe Boulud" on Manhattan's Upper East Side. There's a boisterous table next to us, and we recognize CNN's Carolyn O'Neil as one of the revelers. They are celebrating something, so, curious New Yorkers that we are, we ask them what is it? A book called "The Dish on Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous." Remember that scene in "Sex & the City" when Carrie's in Paris and the Parisian bookstore throws her a party and she doesn't show? Well, it's like that, except it's New York, she shows, and everybody (including all the strangers at the adjoining tables) has a swell time, they pass the book around and we all get to take a peek (I hogged it for close to an hour). The bad news is: it's their only copy! We can look, but we can't buy it. The good news is we go home, go on Amazon and order it. If Carrie Bradshaw wrote a book on how to eat well and still fit into her fabulous outfits, this would be it. It's whimsical, but underlying it all is the serious topic of getting us to eat healthy without becoming obnoxious food cops. I love living in this city, and running into Carolyn (and her co-author Densie Webb and all her other friends) is one of the reasons why.

Finally a book that makes sense and has real world application! It is so fun and easy to read - I could hardly put it down. I can relate to the information in the book and actually put it to good use - my kitchen makeover is almost complete! All of my bridesmaids are getting a copy too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eat Great and Look Great, May 11, 2006
This review is from: The Dish: On Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous! (Hardcover)
The Dish helped me...finally...learn what nutrition was really about. NOT about all the foods I can't eat, but what I should be adding to my diet. The recipes are easy and tasty and really pretty to make. There's even a chapter on what to drink and what to eat at airports and restaurants. The Dish helps me even when I leave my home kitchen...and truthfully, away from home is where I make the most food choices. It's The Dish on real life nutrition.

5.0 out of 5 stars You gotta love it, March 21, 2005
This review is from: The Dish: On Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous! (Hardcover)
Even a stay-at-home Mom ( like me ), who is not particularly thin or stylish will love this book. It is fun to read and these two authors give you their years of knowledge and education in a simple to understand format. You're going to love it!

Now my choices are smarter and I already feel better. I'm not skinny but I have more energy . Even when I just pick up the kids I look better because I am happier.

I especially love the tips for being on the go. Thanks Dish Divas! You gotta love it !

5.0 out of 5 stars I've Eaten Chocolate with Densie and Carolyn!, March 16, 2005
This review is from: The Dish: On Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous! (Hardcover)
It's true. I've got the dirt on these dish divas. And, they're just like you and me. They like to eat! That's what makes their book so absolutely real.

If you've read French Women Don't Get Fat and wondered what to do besides eating your weight in leek soup and homemade yogurt, this is the book for you. It's a purely American look at how you, with a few tricks and tweaks, can eat and live well and not be diet-obsessed.

I've only bought two diet books in my life. One is Susan Estrich's Making the Case for Yourself: A Diet Book for Smart Women and the other is The Dish. My point is that I think before I spend money on a diet book, and so should you. We all know that fad diets don't work, and we're sick of depriving ourselves for a short-term weight loss. The Dish is a handy reference and brightly written resource with everyday strategies for the long haul.

I've known Densie since we went on our first double date together in eighth grade, and I call her all the time for nutrition advice. Now, everyone else gets to tap the same resource. That's only fair, I guess, since she has a Ph.D. in nutrition and is a noted expert. And, I promise, although she likes chocolate as much as the next person (read that me), she practices what she preaches! -DW, Ph.D.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, fun, fun....full of dishy insider tips too--Great gift!, October 21, 2004
This review is from: The Dish: On Eating Healthy and Being Fabulous! (Hardcover)
This fun book will tell you more about how to eat healthy and be healthy than most textbooks....BUT, you will LOVE reading it. It's that fun. (If you don't believe that, check out the recipe for "Accessorizing Your Breasts" and the wine tip titled "Pinot Envy.") The best part is that the book is mostly short blurbs, charts and lists, so you can flip through and read any pages at your leisure, in any order. My favorite parts of the book are the frequent asides labeled "Densie Says" and "Carolyn Says" which put a personal spin on what the authors really think and honest insights into how they incorporate good nutrition and good food into their own lifestyles. In short, the writing is fun to read and the wealth of information is priceless. I bought four books as gifts for my sisters and niece--what a great gift this book makes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Fascinating, September 25, 2011

Chick (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This is a fun book that takes the "serious" out of a lifetime of dieting and weight loss and puts everything into a healthy and "fabulous" perspective. A great read! A super gift for your girlfriend's birthday!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dish on "The Dish", June 10, 2011
By
Caitlin Russell (Atlanta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
Carolyn and Denise do a wonderful job at simplifying the dizzying amounts of information on health and nutrition, and in a way that is entertaining to read! A great book to add to your bag for reading at the beach or pool this summer, with lots of tips on how to stay healthy while also having fun. It's like talking to a girlfriend about what they do to stay slim and trim, or get rid of those pesky last 5-10 pounds. It's always nice to hear another point of view from real people who walk the walk.....Carolyn and Denise definitely talk the talk as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars No nonsense!, June 2, 2011
Carolyn O'Neil's approach to eating right is no nonsense. I dare not call it a diet book as it is far from it. It's an everyday aprroach to living a healthy lifestyle and teaching an easy way to live life to the best...food wise. (And she makes it so much fun to read with her very entertaining sense of humor along the way.) I loved it and consider it the best among the MANY books I have read on this topic!
