I bought this tripod kit for use with a ViP211k receiver I had recently purchased for traveling in my RV with Dish Network's Pay-As-You-Go plan added to my existing home account. I considered getting the Tailgater antenna instead, which aims itself, but read too many reviews about it failing. I started imagining the internal aiming mechanism breaking out in the middle of nowhere and having no way to fix it or aim the dish manually, which was enough to convince me to get this one instead. I figured once I learned to aim the thing it wouldn't be a big deal, and after getting it set up the first time I'm convinced that that will be the case.

I received the kit last week and just got it set up last night. And as others have indicated, the instructions are pretty vague. Despite that I didn't find it too difficult to figure out what goes where. A bigger flaw I found in the instruction sheet was in the table of settings by zip code. The recommended skew setting for my zip code was 5 degrees different from the setting recommended by Dish Network on the receiver's "Point Dish" screen (using the receiver's remote, press Menu, 6, 1, 1 which brings up the Point Dish screen, then enter your zip code in the left field, set transponder to 11 and satellite to 119, the settings will appear below that). Dish's setting worked correctly.

I was impressed with the quality of the components. The satellite finder works great, the compass is well built (and I was wanting one anyway so this will be great to have), and the tripod is sturdy. But I really wish the tripod had individually adjustable legs and a bubble level, which would make it much easier to set up. If you don't have the tripod very level, all the rest of your adjustments will be difficult if not impossible to make.

Getting my own antenna and receiver (sold separately) was much cheaper than going through Dish. Putting together the antenna was somewhat difficult due to lack of good directions. I was able to figure it out looking at other antennas that were already assembled and in use. Accurately pointing the dish was time consuming but not difficult.

This dish has everything needed to get my TV working when I bring my dish receiver to camp. I just connect my receiver to the dish and turn it on. It came with everything I needed to get it pointed in the right direction in a few minutes. The sturdy tripod was very easy to secure to the ground. My camper is in a permanent location, but this dish setup would be very easy to move if you are on the go.

I tried several portable satellite dishes before purchasing the Dish 1000 from Amazon. It's just like the dish at home & sinks up well with my 211k receiver box. Just set & point & you're in business.

I was excited to get this dish. Shipping was really fast. We travel about 100 miles to NCAA Football games and thought getting ESPN etc at the stadium would be great. I discounted the other reviews about setup because we would always use it in pretty much the same spot. I tried to a dry run from home today to get this to work. I am fairly handy and know how to get just about everything working. Three hours later I had about a 17% signal with some but not all channels coming in. What a pain. Even if everything goes right, I would guess you would need at least an hour to get this up and running. Not that fun for a tail gate. If you have a cabin and set this up once it will work. If you plan on setting it up for a few hours forget it. Finally, it doesn't fold very small. The bolts it comes with are really for set and forget. I went to Home Depot and bought wing nuts so I could change the angles in the field. It still takes up a huge amount of space in the mini-van. I think I'll return it and eat the shipping or try and sell on craigslist. Should have bought the "Tailgater".

This Dish Network Tripod Kit worked great! I assembled the kit, hooked up the cable to my existing Dish Network satellite receiver and made a few adjustments to the dish position using the signal strength meter included in the kit. I turned on the TV and had a perfect HD picture.

It works as advertized. The tripod is simply what is used on a roof peak and is quite sturdy. The meter could be better to use but works when there is two people setting this up. A good system overall.
