This review is from: Dishonor And Desire (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book had me from the beginning. Strong lead characters and Juliet Landon made me dislike Caterina's father and brother instantly. Sometimes I find it hard to believe in romance novels how quickly one character can love another by just seeing them but Chase was very convincing and brought out the best in Caterina. Caterina is a passionate woman who is trodden over by her father and brother only to be given to Sir Chase to clear her brothers gambling debt. Sir Chase however can clearly see who Caterina is and wants to take her away from her unlawful family. While trying to gain her trust and love, Sir Chase opens her eyes to what her family are doing to gain their wealth and how he can be the one to love her and give her the freedom to be herself.
It was a good insight into the slave trade and what some groups did against slave trading such as the Slave Emancipation Society. I'm yet to read any more of Landons work but will in the near future. |
