5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating lore and gameplay December 15, 2013
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
Wow. If you haven't experienced Dishonored yet do yourself a favor and buy this GOTY edition. Please make a sequel, Arkane!!!!!!!!

My first playthrough I decided to go for the zero kill route on hard difficulty. It was hella tedious at first (a lot of reloading), but once you get the hang of things and using the powers it smooths out quite nicely. I eventually beat the main game and 2 of the 3 DLC's (I'll play City Trials later) doing the no kill thing. This got me all the "good" endings. Now I'm ready to play through it again using max butchery.

The Pros:

1) Very well thought out and fascinating lore. I loved the Victorian setting, and the whale oil was a stroke of genius IMO.

2) No hiccups, bugs, freezing, or graphical clipping. I was going for the stealthy route, and I heard the PS3 version does have some minor clipping issues with a lot of enemies on the screen. We'll see when I do my combat run.

3) Great combat. GREAT COMBAT!!!!!!

4) Lovely character models.

5) The city of Dunwall looks absolutely stunning.

The Cons:

1) Knocked out NPC's are a little too fragile. I would like a color code in future Dishonored games that represents live and dead NPC's. It kinda sucked when I finished a mission going for zero kills and I had one death that I didn't know about. Maybe give a warning that the knocked out NPC is drowning, etc.?

2) Not really a con, but a limitation of last gen consoles: dead bodies disappearing. I'm sure this won't be an issue on the PS4 or X1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really amazing November 2, 2013

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Absolutely loved this game , it has infinite replay value and you'll spend months of your free time playing this game if you realize how much there is to it. This game has so much emphasis on player choice and you can go the entire game without killing a single person . And there are endless possibilities to killing your enemies and your main assassination targets. And despite the bad character models and dull environment (The environment is supposed it set the theme of a plague stricken city , so it's supposed to be dull) , it's a 5 star . And I really liked the designs on the tarot deck I got with the game . This game also has a message to imply because killing people in this game is way too easy and much faster if you're playing it through without getting detected . But kill too many people , the plague in the city spreads much faster and it's not cured in the end of the game . But if you play it through with little or no kills , the plague is cured and the end is not sad and depressing . Overall , if you like overly realistic games , this will give you hundreds of hours of gameplay and endless fun .

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! January 1, 2014

If you care about good gameplay, an in-depth world, great characters, and an enthralling story more than hyper-realistic graphics and mindless shooting, you'll love this game.

It challenges you to find the best option to achieve your goals, and forces you to deal with the consequences of those choices, making it a much more thoughtful experience than your basic shooter. You're given a plethora of tools with which to go about your missions, different roadways and methods to traverse them, and tons of world-building information to further inform your decisions.

With the Game of the Year edition, the DLCs add another game's-worth of content to the original, making it a smart and worthwhile purchase.

If you love smart, thoughtful, interesting games, this is a buy for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome game January 7, 2014
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Verified Purchase
I bought this game without any expectations, I barely knew what was it about. I decided to purchase it and i definitely aim the right game. it has everything to be a GOTY. The development of the story is great, special powers and weapons are cooler than any MWF game. It has become my favourite game ever. Dont hesitate to buy this great game.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Stealth Game That Defined a Generation November 17, 2013
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3
Dishonored was hands down my favorite game of 2012, so it was a no-brainer to purchase the Game of the Year Edition with all of the downloadable add-ons that were released individually on Playstation Network. I originally posted a review for Dishonored last year but I felt the need to give a review on this release since there aren't many up on Amazon. Needless to say, if you're a Dishonored fan already or interested in this game for the first time, this is the version you want. For people who still own Dishonored, this version isn't compatible with your old save, however that's par for the course for Game of the Year Editions.

As for the game itself, this is the same game many people have come to know and love, but now it's just more of it. The stealth gameplay is still best in class, offering old school Thief style gameplay with tremendous art direction from the art director of Half-Life 2's City 17. Both stealth and combat feel fluid, allowing you to play without feeling like the controls are fighting against you, which is important in a game that relies so heavily on the controls during tense stealth segments. This game is totally doable and enjoyable as a stealth and action game, so I'd honestly recommend playing through at least twice.

Since I hinted at the art direction earlier, this game is simply stunning to look at. Not only is it beautiful, it's also very atmospheric. While it has an atmosphere all its own, I haven't been this immersed in a game world since Bioshock's Rapture, Half-Life 2's City 17, and the most recent, Bioshock Infinite's Columbia. It's not only a beautifully constructed game environment, but one that immerses you in it and makes you want to stay in it for as long as possible.
