The recommended age is 3 to 8 years but I think it's too young for my 6 year old grandson. He is pretty cute and says really corny things typical of Mater but definitely for the younger kids.

This is a cute toy. My 11 year old even plays with him. I also have a 8 and 4 year old that enjoy playing with him. He is soft toy. When you switch him out of demo mode he is fun. You can shake him and he will talk or you can push his tow bar or bumper to talk. He shuts himself off when you leave him alone. He says later mater..He sounds just like he did in the movie. He even make us laugh(Parents). So all in all I feel he would entertain all ages :)

My 3 year old boy and his cousins ages 2-6 all LOVE "Make Me Laugh Mater!" The voice and delivery of Larry the Cable Guy makes it funnier, and what he says pertain to phrases from the movie. This is a durable and fun toy, which continues to make the kids giggle long after the movie has come and gone.

Regarding the other reviews: 1) OK, what may be funny to a 3 year old may not be funny to you. 2) If you haven't seen the movie, you may not "get" Mater's humor. 3) Read the instructions and press all the indicated areas to get all of the phrases Mater says. 4) There is only one objectionable (to me) phrase and that is "Tractors are dumb." I thought that should not have been included, and had a talk with my son to explain that it's wrong to call anyone "dumb." That's all it took, an opportunity for a lesson. No big deal.

So, if you want to get a fun toy for a "Cars" movie fan, this is a great one!

I bought this toy for my 2 year old grandson's birthday. He's in love with the "Cars" movie but unfortunately many of the movie's toys are not appropriate for his age group.

This plush toy is great for him and seems to be very durable. He tends to be rough on things but the toy is holding up very well. It's also very cute and says some FUNNY things.

For younger children, I feel the toy is well worth the money, but I think kids older than 3 would get bored quickly. Mater is cuddly and can talk but that's about it.

If you've seen CARS, the animated movie, you know all about the tow truck called Mater, voiced by Larry The Cable Guy. This soft plush toy has his voice saying one of 75 different phrases when you squeeze his tow hook or front bumper. Some of the phrases are two-parters where Mater will ask a question and wait a few seconds for an answer, then add another quote. It's not really interactive, but will seem so to a child.

Great toy for a kid of any age - I got it as a gag gift for my son, who is 31 years old. It cracked him up!

Bought this for a 3 year-old boy's birthday- he instantly started to squeeze it to make it talk! Didn't get to see him play/interact with it for very long because he was busy opening other gifts at party. I'm sure he will enjoy because he loves all "Cars" movie characters.

I am a nurse who takes care of a brain-injured child. He has had Mater for many years, but now it has worn out. We are trying to find a replacement for him. I really need to know the phrases this Mater says, to be sure it's the same exact one. I saw where someone said he says, "Tractors are Dumb", but I never heard this kids' Mater say that. It might've, though, before it was in such bad shape, maybe before I was with them. This one said soemthing like, "Wanna see me spell Mater backwards? Let me get turned around!" Is that the same as this one? Can anyone tell me some more phrases, please, before I order it, to be sure? We got this for the kids a few years ago. It's funny, they loved it when it was new, and it's been pretty durable. Every once in a while they still come to me asking me to replace the batteries, so they still play with it. That's better than I can say for 80% of the toys I've gotten for them over the years. If you're on the fence about it, go for it. No design or durability issues with it at all.

This a very cute Mater talking toy. If your child is like my son, it may take him a while to get used to it. It is a little startling at first. But now my son pushes the buttons to make him talk.I would recommend for any child that likes the Cars movie.

The kids love this. I bought this for my son for his 3rd birthday. Him and his little sister fight over it. Sometimes they have a hard time remembering where to push it for it to talk (the bumper and tow hook) but it's still a good time and gets them laughing.
