5.0 out of 5 stars having fun at the Mountain Challenge
Despite the other reviews I bought this toy for my son and I have to say that we have had not problems with it. It did take some time to put together, but once together it has stayed together. It is a blast and he is really enjoying it. At least for us this was a very good purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars AAAGH - disappointing, November 4, 2006

This is what my son wanted for his 5th birthday - and it was all he asked for. He got 2 giftcards, and we went to get it today. It took forever to put together - with only pictures for assembly - no words! Two different pieces keep popping out - and the car falls off of the track after bousing off the railing. I feel horrible that my son spent his own gift crads on this. We also bought 3 additional die cast cars that were above it on the shelf at Toys R Us, but they are too wide to work.

Overall, much longer to put together than was spent playing with it!

1.0 out of 5 stars My kid won't stop crying, November 14, 2006

Please don't buy this toy. It was very difficult to put together, poorly designed, flimsy, will eat batteries, has an annoying sound, and is generally a huge waste of money. My 5-year old lost interest quickly and my 2 year found it so frustatingly flimsy that he wouldn't stop sceaming and crying. Also note that unless you throw it away (thereby granting yourself peace and salvation), it will take up a lot of space because you will be unwilling to disassemble and then reassemble it at a future time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing for the price, September 29, 2006

My 4 year old son received this as a birthday present. My husband and I worked together for about an hour to get it together but we were able to do it. When we turned it on for the first time everyone was very excited. It worked great and my son was having a great time putting all of the cars in his collection in and watching them shoot around - we thought it was great!!! THEN...after a few rounds of playing (within the same day) pieces of the track started coming disconnected. No problem we just put them back. Then every minute or so my son was calling us to put it back together. This toy is a great idea but not well executed, especially for the near $40 price. We put the toy in the closet while we had company in the house and haven't taken it out yet. We are trying to decide what to do with it. Overall I was very disappointed and sorry that his grandmother spent the money on a toy that just isn't well made.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor choice, October 30, 2006
This review is from: Disney Cars: Radiator Springs Mountain Challenge Track Set (Toy)
This toy was disapointing! I purchaced one for my son and one for my nephew for a total of $[...] waisted. The toy took a long time to put together and fell apart continously. The boys were delighted for about 15 minutes after wiating an hour or more for assembly and before it broke. Poorly made very cheap.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your time or money, April 3, 2007
This review is from: Disney Cars: Radiator Springs Mountain Challenge Track Set (Toy)
I paid $9.72 on clearance from a major retailer. I've put together many toys in my 20 years of parenting. I've never quite been as frustrated with any toy...EVER....!! It has just wasted a good hour putting it together. Viola..it's together, so all should be fine, right? WRONG.
This was all my 7 year old wanted for Christmas, but it had to wait for his birthday to get it.
He is just as frustrated as I am. Sometimes the car makes the turn, sometimes not. Sometimes the track falls apart, sometimes not.
I LOVED the CARS movie. I have loved all the other toys they have come out with it, but this would be returned if I could find the receipt. To the trash it will go.
VERY disappointing. Please save yourself and child the aggrevation! It's a waste of time!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Pleased With This Toy, August 13, 2006
This review is from: Disney Cars: Radiator Springs Mountain Challenge Track Set (Toy)
My son received this toy as a birthday present and all I can say is thank goodness I didn't shell out the $40 for it because it would have been returned promptly. It took me a good while to get this thing put together. When you make a product for kids and they're chomping at the bit to play with the toy, it should come either partially assembled or at least be easy to assemble, but this one took concentration and lots of time to put together. Also, for such an expensive toy it only came with one vehicle, which my 3 boys were not really keen on sharing No problem, go and buy some extras, right? Nope, can't find them at any of the local stores. My other complaint is that the track is pretty flimsy. I think I'm going to have to end up gluing some of the parts together because I can't get them to stay together. I keep getting beckoned to the upstairs toyroom every two minutes because the track came apart ... AGAIN. I have always had great experiences with Mattel toys and my boys loved the Cars movie, but I am so frustrated with this toy. i think if I hadn't already thrown the box away, I would definitely try to return it I will be placing a call to Mattel's customer service to give them my opinion.

We purchased this for our 6 year old son for his Birthday, it's not a bad toy at all. My husband assembled the toy within 10 minutes. The directions are very clear. He said that it's harder to take a Barbie out of the box than to assemble this. My son has been having a great time playing with it with no problems. There is only one small downfall. It seems the only cars that work with this set are the smaller ones like Sally, and the several Mcqueens that are out there. We tried using the King, Chick and Sheriff cars, but they are too heavy and don't round the track well. All in all he is having a blast with it and it is a great addition to his other "Cars" playsets.

I did not put this together, but I'm told it was pretty easy. Once up and running, so were we. My five year old son spent almost an entire day "charting" which Radiator Springs resident ran the track the best. We then spent the next two days at tryouts for the rest of his Hot Wheels/ Matchbox collection. He really likes the "tipper" that gently dumps a car from the track and the spin out at the curve. I'm surprized that it hasn't come apart like so many other racetracks, and that it has captivated him so. We are continuing our test runs with other materials too, like marbles and superballs. Neat.
