I read online that the problem with giving 2 - 4 year olds CD players and stories with CD's, is that they lose track of where they are in the story. There is a signal to turn the page, but very young children struggle to properly turn normal paper pages (such as are in these books) and can take a few seconds to get to the right page - and by then the cd would have carried on and they can easiliy lose where they are in the story and become frustrated.

Enter the brilliance of the Disney Story Readers! The child controls when each page is narrated. Each page has a colour and shape symbol that matches onto the electronic reader, so when they turn the page, they find the matching symbol on the reader and press it when they are ready. It can't go on until they have told it to - perfect! Through playing with this, my four year old has really honed the art of normal page turning by 'tickling' the pages together. He can see on the reader which symbol should have come next and then knows whether he missed a page or not and can go back. All of this can take a few seconds but its not a problem as he tells the reader when he is ready for it to read the next page. It is brilliant matching and page turning practice for my little book lover.

At first I thought the sound was too loud and tinny, but then when we used it on a car trip, I appreciated this feature as it was loud enough for him to hear clearly - yet not so loud that it woke his baby brother.

Honestly, you won't regret this purchase if your child loves books. It has bought us many hours of peace at bedtime when we needed to attend to his brother or some other emergency when we would normally be reading him stories.

The reader works very well, a two year old can entertain themselves for a bit reading books... But the books are very poorly written, boring, and make me cringe whenever they are pulled out. Get some real books and it can be a great product.

My 4 and 2 y/o love these books; we "read" one along with a story from the Jesus Storybook Bible ([...]) each night.
There are 10 books and 10 pages for each. The kids love taking turns pushing the buttons and matching the color/shape on the buttons with the current page. Having seen some of the related movies/shows, they know all the characters. We are definitely getting our money's worth out of these books. Highly recommended.

This reminds me of a more tech savvy version of those read a long records they used to make. There's even the "ding" sound when it's time to turn the page. This is so simple to use- my 4 year old adores it. She can "read" the books all by herself and it teaches her to follow along to the words. I can't say enough good things about this product - I give it as a gift all the time.

I received a malfunctioning product, BUT we were able to test it quite a bit and I would still not recommend it. It desperately needs a volume switch. The volume is quite loud and there's nothing you can do about it. Our story reader would only start in the middle of books and read one page, and when we put in fresh batteries, it would not work at all, but again, ours was malfunctioning and has been returned. Before we returned it, I read several of the stories with my kids and found the stories to be so abbreviated that they almost didn't make sense. Definitely save your money.

We love this series of books and previously had another set of Disney Me Readers. The battery lasts a LOOOOONG time and my son enjoys being able to pick one of 8 books, and also pushing the button for each page.

I really like the concept of this reader. Playing audio for one page at a time makes it easier for my 3-year-old to keep up with the pages than with cd read-alongs, where if she is distracted for a few seconds, she will lose her place. Plus, having several books to choose from on the single reader is easier than having to find the right cd for the right book and get it playing in the cd player.

However, I was pretty disappointed in the books. Each book is comprised of 10 2-page spreads that correspond to the buttons on the reader. Each 2-page spread only contains 1 or 2 sentences of text. So each book is about 15 sentences long. It is more of a summary than a story, and rather dry. (We have a set of Disney movie story books that we really enjoy, but they are longer and more in-depth with the story-telling. I thought these books were going to be more like those.)

That being said, I have to admit, my daughter seems to really enjoy using it -- at least for now. She likes being able to do it herself. I kind of think that once that novelty wears off, she'll lose interest, though, because the stories are not enough to hold her interest. In fact, tonight, she "read" the "Up" story and then came to me and said "Mom, I want you to read me the whole thing." (Meaning she wanted me to get the other, longer, storybook version of "Up" that we have and read it to her.)

Purchased for 4 year old grandson. We now have both sets of these story books. Great fun! He loves the audio story and pressing buttons after each page to hear and see as pages are turned and the story progresses.
