Rather Disappointing, June 26, 2008
This review is from: Disney Fairies: Dulcie's Taste of Magic (Disney Fairies) (A Stepping Stone Book(TM)) (Paperback)
I was rather disappointed in this story which I know is not the common viewpoint. My 6 year old is reading this story to me and she has pointed out each instance that Dulcie lies or steals to make her magic recipe. This is all true. She does tell fibs when other fairies ask her what she is doing and she does steal the ingredients and takes advantage of other fairies' hard work. My 6 year old even made the comment that she doesn't think the magic should work for someone who lies and steals. It may teach better lessons, I am just sharing the viewpoint of a 6 year old.

Fabulous bedtime story, June 9, 2008
This review is from: Disney Fairies: Dulcie's Taste of Magic (Disney Fairies) (A Stepping Stone Book(TM)) (Paperback)
I have purchased and read almost all of these books with my two girls (6 & 4). We read a chapter a night and the girls can not wait to read the next chapter. We started with The Trouble with Tink and now have one left. Beck and the Great Berry Battle. The stories are well thought out and feature the fairies from the previous books. After each Chapter we talk about what could happen in the next chapter. My six year old sometimes reads the chapters ahead of time becauses she can't wait to find out what happens. All in all a wonderful story that is appropriate for the younger crowd.

Embracing Other "Talents!", March 15, 2008
This review is from: Disney Fairies: Dulcie's Taste of Magic (Disney Fairies) (A Stepping Stone Book(TM)) (Paperback)
While researching children's books and trends, I discovered this book. I was attracted by the beautifully illustrated cover and by the story summary on back. Who can resist an adventure that includes a determined little fairy who's name means "sweet," a magical recipe written in ancient Leaf Lettering, and a direct career challenge from a snarky fairy named Ginger! I purchased this book, and I must say it is a delightful tale chock full of important lessons relevant for today's busy people / families--career & activity driven people who are too busy too appreciate who and what is around them.
Dulcie, the main character, is a busy, busy baking fairy who learns to appreciate the jobs -- "the talents" --of other fairies while also learning to slow down and enjoy all the wonders that life offers. In her quest to create the ultimate Comfort Cake and secure her position as lead baker, she discovers new "magic" ---the everyday, but oh-so-powerful "magic" of personal identity, self-confidence, self-esteem, observation, courage, cunning, timing, understanding, trust, belief, effort, and teamwork.
This book is a must read--whether one is 8 or 88. It is especially appropriate for family reading and discussions. Everyone who experiences this story can come away with a little treasure of inner wisdom.
