5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and fun game
I have to come to the defense of this game, which is one of my daughter's favorites. It is beautifully made, and involves not only chance, but simple strategy, as well. Perhaps the other reviewers did not take the time to read the directions? As with most successful games, the directions are simple, but the game play is not. This is a slightly more complicated variation...

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't get sucked in by the pretty board!
While the board and pieces are eye-catching, the game itself is pretty lame. It is all chance and can take a long time to end. The spinner is poorly designed and often flies off when the girls spin it. The other bad thing is that you can't tell which piece to take when the spinner lands in the middle which it often does. There is a piece that allows you to move anywhere...

I have to come to the defense of this game, which is one of my daughter's favorites. It is beautifully made, and involves not only chance, but simple strategy, as well. Perhaps the other reviewers did not take the time to read the directions? As with most successful games, the directions are simple, but the game play is not. This is a slightly more complicated variation of a classic memory game, in which kids have to remember which fairy attributes are hidden under each game piece. Players move around the board to collect the attributes that belong to their character; however, the board itself spins, which frustrates (in a good way!) each player's attempt to get where they want to go. They games never last longer than ten or fifteen minutes, and are truly fun, even for adults (and even my husband enjoys playing)! (This is *not* one of those "chance only" boring games, like Candy Land, which always elicits a groan from us when our daughter wants to play!) And because the game pieces in the fairy game are meant to be "assembled" in a new, random way each time you play, the game is different each time.

In addition, I do not understand the accusation that the spinner flies out of control: if you read the instructions, one half of the spinner is supposed to be placed *below* the game board, and it fits into the upper half that spins, creating a kind of "lazy susan" at the center of the board. When it is assembled like this, I do not know how it could possibly come out or knock over the game pieces.

This is an absolute favorite of my four-year-old girl, and she is fascinated by the beautiful fairy artwork. This is a great gift for any little fairy lover, from 4 to about 6 years old (though I imagine it would be played with until the age of eight or so).

The spinner is poorly designed and often flies off when the girls spin it. The other bad thing is that you can't tell which piece to take when the spinner lands in the middle which it often does. There is a piece that allows you to move anywhere on the board, but even the kids figured out that it has no purpose as what you needed will no longer be in that location after the next child spins. Ours came with the free interactive DVD (which has nothing to do with the game). The DVD is great and totally Disney quality, but it also comes with most of the Fairies toys so it isn't worth buying this game to get it. Overall, the game was a big disappointment. It makes you wonder if they actually have children play the game in the development phase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy - adults don't have the patience to sit through it, January 2, 2009

This game takes way too long to play, has little to no strategy involved, and has a spinner that knocks everyone off their places any time a kid spins it. The average child does not have an attention span long enough to endure a full game, the adults couldn't even do it. The only way to have a little fun with this game is to rewrite the rules and play it in a totally different way. They clearly didn't run this through a test with actual kids playing.
