4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This CD has been given low marks because it's not a CD+G. That is mainly because it is not understood that once upon a time,
before CD's, karaoke was done on audio cassettes. Audio Cassettes did not have lyrics. People had to read off a sheet. People had to learn a song well. People still had fun. The same formula works on CD!

You would think that Disney would provide the highest quality product. I purchased Disney Karaoke 1-4 at Disneyland, thinking I would get "the real thing." Well, their vocal demonstration tracks were NOT the original songs but were sung by others, and the words are only printed on an inside liner, not embedded in the discs.

If you've ever bought any other karaoke CD's (esp. at this price range), most of the vocalists are mediocre at best, and the instrumentation ranges from barely acceptable to absolutely horrible MIDI Music.

Contrast this with the beautiful instrumentations and excellent guide vocalists on this CD and you have yourself a 5 star CD at about 1/3 the price and rivalling if not exceeding the quality of the top Quality Karaoke Brands.

The only minor irritant is that on the instrumental tracks, the melody line is played by an instrument (vs. normal karaoke where the melody line is left to the singer only). Minus 1 star for that.

So if you can't handle reading off a lyric's sheet and learning how to really sing the song, then this CD is not for you. But, If you are looking for top notch, well produced Disney Karaoke then you should definitely check out this CD.

Well, their vocal demonstration tracks were NOT the original songs but were sung by others, and the words are only printed on an inside liner, not embedded in the discs. In other words, these are just song and music discs with no graphics at all. You can play them in a karaoke machine and you might as well be playing them in a regular CD player. If you plan on singing these songs, either memorize the words or carry the cumbersome songbook wherever you go. Not worth it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disney Karaoke Vol.2 [KARAOKE], December 21, 2002
This review is from: Disney Karaoke, Volume 2 (Audio CD)
Quite disappointed that there are no screen lyrics available. Although some say karaoke is merely singing the lyrics to the instrumental version of the song, modern day tapes and cd's *do* include the "CDG". Disney seems to fall behind the times. You're better off with a sing-along video -- at least then the kids might learn to read (or at least recognize words). My 4 & 2 year olds wouldn't know what to do with just the instrumental version, of 'true' karaoke. I do prefer vol2 over vol1 or vol3.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disney Karaoke is not true Karaoke, February 17, 2002

I bought this CD for my daughter because of the words 'Karaoke' on the cover. I thought that it would be a real Karaoke CD- one that provides words on the screen of a Karaoke Machine. It does have the words inside the package but not in the CD. To me that is false advertising. It is a lovely collection of Disney tunes-but 11 of them are instumental! How are you supposed to sing along with instrumental songs? I feel like I was dupped and riped off.

This is not true Karaoke--there are no onscreen graphics to accompany the songs. There are 10 songs with and without words. The songs with lyrics are not even by the original artists. They sound awful sung by some unknown singers. This is the biggest Disney rip-off yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disney, Vol. 2, April 8, 2006

While most people are complaing that there are "no words", that is precisely why I bought it. (Well, that, and it was pretty inexpensive.)

As a vocalist, I find the songs themselves to be very simple and easy to learn, however, the reason I bought it was because I wanted something that would help me learn to hear my cues in the music, as opposed to reading from sheet music, which I am more used to. In that, it has served its purpose. However, most people probably want to get this for their kids to have fun with, and telling a young child to learn to hear their cues in the music will probably keep them occupied for all of 5 minutes before they get frustrated. Older children might be able to do it, though.

Now, I'm not a huge Disney fan, but these songs are quite good. The tempo and keys are correct, and while they do not have the original cast vocalists, the singers are pretty darn good, so you do get decent vocalists, which cannot be said for many karaoke CDs. Same goes for the instrumentation. These are not crappy remakes of the songs.

So, I guess if you don't mind reading off the lyric booklet, you can't really go wrong with this CD.

Ignore the big word "Karaoke" on the cover and the microphone shown, this is just a music CD, it does not display anything in a karaoke player.

I wish I had read all the other reviews. I wanted this to use with a karaoke machine to see lyrics on the tv screen. It only has lyrics in the booklet that comes with the cd.

We purchased this for our seven year old son and he loves it. With this CD he and our five year old daughter have fun putting on their own Disney shows complete with music and backup vocals. Being big Disney fans, we also ordered volumes 1 and 3 and they should be here anyday.
