Disney Mix Mvp Media Player - Blue Chrome

I have been the unfortunate father of children who have had several Disney electronics items bought for them. Each one of them comes with proprietary software that crashes often and is insanely SLOW... These items include Disney digital camera and a Hannah music player. There is no way to get music/pictures onto these things without using their horrible software. Spend an extra $[...]-$[...] and get a real player like a SanDisk Sansa or Sony Walkman.

I bought this dreadful toy for my daughter as a Christmas gift primarily because advertisement on Amazon boasts the player's ability to play music, videos and photos and it claims to store up to 1000 photos or 6 hours of video. Uh....NOT! I have yet to see any video play on this thing. I find NO support at [...] for this unit either as it's probably been discovered that the thing is a waste and they aren't making them anymore....Just DON'T waste your time or money. Trust me.

For starters, the item arrived horribly scratched, which I assume is the exception rather than the rule. Pretty annoying, though, and it's definitely a sign of the level of quality control with this product. Despite encoding video to the exact specifications in the manual, it always gave an incompatible format error message. It was nice to be able to use Windows Media Player to transfer files rather than their terrible software, but still, why not make it a USB drive that can handle drag and drop with a file browser? I was able to play audio that I transferred via Windows Media Player, but I bought this for the ability to play audio AND video. I ended up returning this and paying the extra money for an iPod Nano. I'd recommend that you buy a player from a manufacturer that knows how to make media players, whether Appple, Sony, or some other brand. Maybe someday Disney will care about the quality of the products they slap their name on, but until then, count me out.

This is going to be a Christmas gift for my 5yo daughter and I think she will love it. It is the only media player that I could find geared for children. It was not easy to get set up, I'm very glad that I opened it before Christmas. It took me about 4 hours to get it completely working. It is no longer supported by disney and the web address they direct you to on the packaging is no longer working. The CD doesn't work either, it directs you to the web site. I was able to download the software from another site, but I'm not sure if it worked, or if my pc just recognized the player.

Some tips so the set up will be easier for you:

1) This will NOT work with WMP 11. WMP9 works ok. The instructions say WMP10, but I could not find it available for XP.

2) You have to convert video files to WMV9 to get them to work. The best instructions I have found are at[..]Player-Help scroll about 1/4 of the way down to the note by spriggig from 11/22/2006. Download and follow the instructions in the pdf file and you won't have any problems. I downloaded some videos from youtube and converted them and they looked and sounded great.

3) I was able to copy music to the device using WMP9 without a problem. Works just like it would with any mp3 player.

I wish it had more internal memory, but the fact that it uses removeable cards balances it out I guess.
I really think my daughter will have fun with this. Hopefully my instructions will help you so it won't take 4 hours of research to get it working.

Followup: She and all of her friends love it! They all want to know where to get one. This was definitely a great christmas present! I am having no trouble at all with it, it works great.

This is a great player for the price. Relatively easy to use for my four year old. One negative is that the parent should put the mix clips in the player unless you have an older child using the MVP. The mix clips are difficult to find. I found mine on ebay for a great price but you have to hope someone is selling them. The screen is very colorful and is lightweight. Overall, I would purchase this item again.

The software with this player is horrible but they also tell you right in the directions to SYNC your player with Windows media Player. You hook it up with the USB and your pc recoginizes the player and you drag and drop your music files, videos and photos to the player. I did have trouble when I added a sd card to the player. It would copy the files but then the player would freeze...it might have something to do with my card too...not sure. The videos also have to be converted to a specific format before they will play on the player. I found the information on their website [...] and followed the instructions and it worked but it did take a lot of time to do it but it worked. Then you just add the files to the player with your Windows Media Player. DON"t try to use the software that came with it..it is horrible. I bought 3 of these for my granddaughters and put songs and videos on them before I gave them to them and they loved them!

I have no less than 11 of these Mix Maxs between our family and friends, including one for myself. From that 11, 1 has broken by one of the kids pushing the headphones in to hard and the infeed came loose. I do suggest the silicone covers to prevent bumps. (you have to find them on eBay)
As far as setting it up, it did take me a while to figure out. But, I had never owned another type of player before so the entire concept was new to me. I use an aftermarket conversion program and once you get it, it is very easy to set up the movies and songs.
This has saved our car trips, dinners out, and waiting in lines. Get one for each child and they can watch what they want to!

It is very difficult to download the music & videos onto this device! It should be more simple since it's only a child's toy!!!! Very unsatisfied!

Purchased this through Amazaon for a christmas gift for my niece. As soon as we opened the package and turned it on, the screen had a blinking, scrambled area on the screen. We fully charged it and it did not help. So do not buy this product.

I bought this item for my grandson. I also had issues with the installation of the software...so I gave up on it. Solution...I copied the music, pictures and videos I wanted him to listen to and view onto a blank SD card. Now, it is simple to pop the card in and out of the SD bay on the player and add/delete media as is necessary. The sound is pretty good, as the volume doesn't go too high. I won't worry that he is injuring his little ears with high volumes. I like it so much I might just have to buy one for myself. I love that it came with a protective, rubber cover for the player...hopefully, he won't have it ruined before next Christmas. Love It!
