Disney Movietoons Presents: Ducktales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp [VHS]

The first of Disney's attempts to make some quick bucks from a feature based on one of their daily TV series, "Treasure of the Lost Lamp" sprawned from the enjoyable 80's cartoon series DuckTales and is likewise animated by the TV department. In this big-screen goround, Scrogue McDuck (Alan Young) travels with his nephews and niece Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby (all Russi Taylor) in search of Collie Baba's legendary treasure. They are persued in this quest by powerhungry sorcerer Merlock (Christopher Lloyd) with the reluctant assistance of his henchmen Dijon (Richard Libertini) and escape with their lives - but without most of the treasure. The kids release a geenie in the lamp when Webby is cleaning her "teacup" and have fun making crazy wishes (such as turning Webby's stuffed toys into real live animals.) But Merlock, the geenie's former master, is hot on their trail and hell-bent on reclaiming the lamp and the power of the geenie at any cost.

All this plays out like a workprint version of Disney's classic "Aladdin," which debuted two years after the DuckTales release, but that's not nessesarily a bad thing. There's a lot to like about "Treasure of the Lost Lamp," and a lot of fun to be had here, including many comic moments. Also, the breezy 74-minute runtime is just right for young viewers' attention spans. While the visiuals and somewhat choppy editing are nothing compared to the Feature Animation-created Disney efforts of the time, the movie recaptures the look, feel, and spirit of the TV show, making it good fun for fans and a very worthile watch for others. In fact, it's best to think of this as an episode of the TV show with an extended runtime. When you use that point of view with this film, you'll have a lot of fun following the epiosodic adventures of the characters. The opening sequences while searching for (and finding) the treasure feel a lot like an animated Indiana Jones and it's a shame there wasn't more time put into this part of the story.

All in all "DuckTales" provides a solid, simple and entertaining story, great vocal delivery from all the cast (most noteable in this department is Christopher Lloyd as the villian), and a lot of laughs with genuine humor behind them. Highly reccomended viewing for a lazy afternoon, but this might not stand up to repeated showings unless you're a big fan of the show. If you are a fan, don't hesitate to buy this - you'll be pleased. Others who just want a taste of what the show was like, this will fit the bill nicely and is suited to a rental.

This is one of my favorite movies of all times, but call it my "closet obsession" because it's not one that my family and friends realize I love. Mostly because, on the surface, this is a simple little movie with not much depth to it; a cartoon for children, not something a person my age (namely, over thirteen) should enjoy so much. But it truely is a great film; a secret I enjoy having. :) First of all, this is _not_ a cheap re-make of "Aladdin", if for no other reason than it came out two years _before_ "Aladdin", so characters and plots and stories would already have been mapped out before the idea of an "Aladdin" movie was even visualized. This is a truely original Disney film. The acting is superb. Alan Young, as always, turns out a wonderfully enjoyable performance as the eccentric, very-Scottish Scrooge McDuck. Terrance McGovern reprises his role as Launchpad McQuack, a fun character with an optimistic, if oblivous, personality ("Any crash you can walk away from is a _good_ crash."). Given my love of the Disney series "Darkwing Duck", it was great to see Launchpad in a feature-length film. The voice actors and actresses were all fantastic; especially Christopher Lloyd, who gives a voice and life to the villainous Merlock. As always, Lloyd does an amazing job; his voice will send chills down your spine. The "beetle in the elevator" scene makes me laugh no matter _how_ many times I see it. I don't know if "Duck Tales The Movie: Treasure Of The Lost Lamp" has the same stunning animation as, perhaps, "Mulan" or "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame" or even, and especially, Don Bluth's "Anastasia", but there is a grace and charm to the character's movements here. And the scenery, especially in the desert, our initial view of Duckberg, and the lush backgrounds in the mansion and money bin, are colorful and lively, an enjoyment to watch. But the reason for my great affection of this movie is for the character of Gene, the genie of the lamp. Beautifully voiced by Rip Taylor, we are shown a character with not only a wonderful sense of humor, but also a geniune enthusiasm for life. Optimistic and ever alert and observant, Gene is all at once an enthusiastic kid and a wise, thoughtful figure who perhaps knows a bit more than he's letting on. He is the original fun-loving genie, before "Aladdin" ever came along. If nothing else, his character has shown me that perception of the world is what gives you happiness, not what happens in your life. Everyone has problems, that's part of life; but keep an energetic excitement for life and enjoy yourself regardless. Deal with problems as best you can, but don't let them knock you down flat. There have been moments in my life where things _are_ knocking me down, and watching this upbeat little character take things in stride, not letting his worries smother him, has helped me develop an optimistic attitude. What else can you ask from a movie? If you need a pick-me-up, a view of optimism and enthusiasm, give "DTTM: TOTLL" a try. Humor, friendship, and even a bit of drama; "It's all I've ever wished for." The film is absolutely a wonderfully magical and exciting adventure. I wish they would release a DVD edition very soon. This film is a definate part of my collection.

Ducktales: The Movie Treasure of the Lost Lamp is a funny movie. The show still shows today but it is on Toon Disney. Toon Disney is like Disney but has 24 hours a day of Disney Shows and movies, movies normally show on Toon Disney normally twice a week on Friday night and Saturday afternon. Expect maybe on a special day.

When the movie opens, Scrooge (Alan Young) and his nephews Huey, Duey and Louie and Webby Vanderquack (Russi Taylor) are flying to a desert with Lanchpad McQuack (Terence McGovern) as thier pilot. When they arrive Launchpad causes a crash which is nothing new becuase he does that lot on the tv show.

The locals tells Scrooge that a box has been pulled from underground which is filled with an Arabian thief named Collie Baba's cothes. But is it a loss because thier is a map in a pocket. To Collie Baba's lost treasure. A thief named Dijon (Richard Libertini) is thier guide. Scrooge finds the treasure but goes back to Duckburg without the treasure.

The plot is that the only treasure they still has is a lamp. And a villian named Merlock (voiced by Christopher Llyod) wants it so badly because Collie Baba once stoled it from him. And Merlock is still alive because his first wish was to stay alive forever. What Huey, Duey, Louie & Webby don't know is thier is a genie (Rip Taylor) in the lamp. While that is going on Scrooge gets an invitation to a ball that every year he tells that he will find the treasure but comes back with nothing.

Though Ducktales did not get the publicity of the Lion King and Mulan, it is one of the greatest animated movies of all time. It features all the prominent characters of the cartoon show including Scrooge McDuck. It combined great adventure with humor and even a little bit of emotion. Simply put, all fans of the TV series should try this movie out. It won't disappoint anyone

If you are a fan of the older disney movies, than Treasure of The Lost Lamp is a must have. Even today, I still love to watch this amazing movie. DuckTales Treasure of The Lost Lamp is great for all ages.

The only improvement needed is to make Treasure of The Lost Lamp a DVD. Even on the old VHS, it still deserves a 5 star rating.

This movie was a childhood favorite. This movie is funny, interesting, and it grabs your attention. It's hard to walk away from once you start it, and even though I've seen it dozen's of times there is always something new or something that you never really "saw" what it was. This is definetly a movie every kid should see....at least once.

This was the first movie I ever saw in theaters and I would buy it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, it's only a rental

I originally saw this movie in the theater back in 1989. It was a fun movie then, and it's just as much fun today as I showed it to my kids.

The late 1980's/early 1990's disney cartoons are some of the best, and most timeless in my opinion.

I remember watching the movie and cartoons when I was a kid, DuckTales was one my favorites. I wish cartoons were more like these now:)
