5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for my 3 1/2 year old son

As far as fun goes, this is a wonderful game. You get to choose characters (Mike or Sulley). You then go through a training level, and then off to other "training" grounds. Instead of scaring actual kids, the objective is to scare robots called "nerves." I guess the creators figured that this would help to keep kids from being scared.

My son will play this game for hours at a time. The first thing he says when he wakes up is, "Wanna play Monsters, mom;" and the first thing he says when he gets home from pre-school is, "Wanna play Monsters, mom." He's been playing it for three weeks, and I have to pull the plug to get him to enjoy other enriching activities. I think he enjoys the freedom of being able to move about the Monster world, and being in control of the character. The threats to Sculley or Mike are minimal and easily defeatable; puzzles and challenges are easily overcome (probably why older gamers don't enjoy the game). The player can go to any part of the world, and repeat challenges. As far as graphics... I love the movie clips that are shown as a reward for completing different challenges. While graphics aren't on par with games such as Final Fantasy X, they are eye-candy to my three year old: Water splashes, a ball bounces, foot prints appear as the characters walk through snow, objects cast shadows, and the characters move smoothly and atheletically. And the game can be saved at any time. I can't think of anything negative to say about this product (other than the older kids might not enjoy it for it's lack of blood and violence).

... I don't regret buying it, my kids ages 8, 5, and 3 love the game. It is very easy to play and my kids are not big time gamers so it is the perfect game for them. It is also very fun for my 3 year old to watch. The controls are easy to learn and are explained very well. This game gets 5 stars with me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Y'know...this ain't half-bad., March 6, 2002
This review is from: Disney/Pixar's Monsters Inc: Scream Team (Video Game)
I'm not a big fan of platform games, but this one is quite enjoyable--the controls are easy to learn, the objectives are clear, and the puzzles are *just* hard enough to keep you trying until you succeed, but not so hard you fling your game controller across the room in frustration.

Filled with characters from the movie (though the voices sound like imitations, for the most part), and interspersed with actual film clips (in low resolution), this does a good job of feeling like the sort of training Mike and Sulley would have had to go through to become scarers--after all, there could be ANYTHING on the other side of that door.

Game control is spelled out clearly in a mandatory tutorial section (every new game starts with the tutorial, but you earn a couple extra lives for the effort), and the game responds well to commands. It's surprisingly replayable, especially if you have a 3-year-old at your elbow imitating Mike and Sulley, but the levels don't really feel like they were designed with the Gold-Silver-Bronze schema in mind: there's an all-or-nothing aspect to each level that seems to be geared on how many of the power-ups you've earned. In other words, you fight like mad to win the bronze medal on a level, then earn the power-up and go back and breeze your way to a silver and a gold almost effortlessly.

The sound work is good, but the graphics could have used some help--I've been playing this on a PS2, and flipping back and forth between this game and Jak and Daxter sharply illustrates the limitations of PSX games. The 3D movement capabilities of this game are almost PS2 quality (it's very rare that a camera angle--which you can control--makes you miss a move or lose a life), but the figures and backgrounds render very harshly.

A fun game, even if your 3-year-old wants to watch you play it for HOURS AND HOURS. It's also the only way you're going to get to see ANY of this movie on your home system before September.

(One caveat: if you haven't seen the movie, you might want to before you play this game. The 30-or-so minutes of movie clips (your rewards for completing tasks) include several from the final act of the movie. Yes, important clips that give away big plot resolutions. You have been warned.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, May 1, 2002

I'm really sorry to the person who said this but they said:

[Quote]Now for the "but"....It is unfortunate that the creators of this game supposed that only little kids would be the ones who would be playing the game. Graphics are clunky and highly pixelated. This is definitely not the "eye candy" most of us are used to from our gaming systems any more. It may not be quite as bad as the old nintendo games were, but it's close. Just because the game is for youngsters doesn't mean the same care shouldn't be put into creating it, especially when it is riding on the "monster tails" of a wonderful and visualy stunning movie.[Quote]

Now this is pretty wrong to say it was almost as bad as nintendo graphics considering it is impossible to make even super nes flush out those visuals. The graphics are great and the little grey box does have a limit but still with no doubt kids will love the graphics, they are colourful cartoony and easy to follow.
The gameplay is great fun, it is mostly standard platforming but built up with little mini games and less jumping and all that stuff. The sound is good with hilarious voices and easy music. The controls are great and kids can use the joystick on the controller for a more easier and fluid way to play. Levels are huge which will take them a while to complete. Also everything else seems good enough to do the job.

It seems like the little grey box hasn't been booted just yet...With games like these coming out monthly it might have a few more years left in it....Who knows?

I believe the price of the game should be about half as much as what it is selling for. I'm sure the kids don't care, but it is a disappointment for the adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game for my son!, December 29, 2001
This review is from: Disney/Pixar's Monsters Inc: Scream Team (Video Game)
I bought this title with the playstation for my 5 year old gamer/son for christmas. He absolutely loves the game, derives great satisfaction from his ability to complete the levels on his own. Also, the training is very clear and fun, and even encourages him to practice his nascent reading skills. Also, for adults, the game is fun to watch, with many movie clips, that make it very easy to tolerate in the background with a good book :) There is nothing dirty or violent in the game. It is a big hit in our house!

4.0 out of 5 stars Let me see..., July 16, 2003
This review is from: Disney/Pixar's Monsters Inc: Scream Team (Video Game)
Wow, I gotta say... this game is pretty good. The graphics are nicely done, the loads are quick, and the mini movies clips are neat. I never saw the movie, but when I bought this game, I found out a whole lot about it. First of all, when I started playing this game, I thought "Oh man, this game is BORING!" Well, I thought wrong. The game begins with Mike or Sulley in the training area. Yes, you DO get to choose or switch off between the two characters. Later, you go to different levels of an area to scare these robot dudes. 99% of the time, you are successful unless you decide not to press any buttons. But why wouldn't you? Anyways, there aren't any BOSS levels in case you're wondering. The game is easy, I beat it 4 times, and you can save up to 4 files for 1 memory block. Overall, the game is neat, easy, and um.. I guess quite affordable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old School Fun, September 22, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Disney/Pixar's Monsters Inc: Scream Team (Video Game)
If you like monsters, scaring people, or anything Monster's Inc. then you will love this original game. The graphics aren't very good, but you have to consider that it is a very old game. Probably from 2001-2002. As long as you can look past that, this game is very interesting and fun. You get to explore and do a lot of crazy things. Jumping, collecting, and scaring, just to name a few. I recommend this game fro kids ages 7+ because it can get tricky at a few moments.
