I bought this toy for my 2 year old daughter. My 5 and 8 year olds could not put it down. They loved hearing the personalized phrases. I didn't have any trouble with software, and my son's name was on the list. Someone else claimed it doesn't have an on/off switch, but that's not true, it's on the internal box that you plug into the computer.

We got this for our son for Christmas and love it. Lucky enough it did have his name and his sisters name to program. However, the daily schedule looses about 30 seconds everyday, and before you know it, it's telling him it's time to eat dinner at 4:30 rather than the 5:00 I had it set for. So I have to re-sync it with the computer every few days. Also, Pooh has yet to mention my son's birthday or do the 'countdown', and that was a feature we were really excited about. All in all, it's a fun toy, and we're glad we got it for our son to play with.

We are on our second Pooh. The first one had all of the download problems listed in previous reviews. We tried on 2 desktop computers and a laptop multiple times, using different cables and replacing the batteries before throwing in the towel and exchanging for a different Pooh. A couple of things that we did differently was connecting the USB cable before selecting the personalized information and making sure the connection is really tight. (During the first download of our first Pooh, the USB connection was not pushed in completely and my computer geek husband said that may have damaged the flash memory).

So, the second Pooh is working very well. My 18 month old daughter LOVES it and is throwing it around with + It is also quite amusing for the adults (an added bonus for toys with sound). Occasionally when Pooh says her name it sounds a little rough, but for the most part the name just flows, like he is really talking just to her. I was disappointed in the food selection - she goes crazy for peas - but alas that is not a food choice.

*note - one of the reviews mentioned that there is no "off" button - that is not true, it is on the voice box on the side where you plug in the USB cable*

I didn't have any trouble with software, and my son's name was on the list. Someone else claimed it doesn't have an on/off switch, but that's not true, it's on the internal box that you plug into the computer.

The main problem with this toy is the same problem with a lot of electronic toys. It doesn't really do much, and nags your child constantly to play with it. It will tell your child when it's time for lunch or a nap or something, but it's not like they're going to be carrying around 24/7 so they're around to hear it. Mostly what it does is say "let's keep playing, shall we? Squeeze my hand." Then when you do, it proclaims it likes the same food or animal that your child likes. Then it asks to have it's hand squeezed again.

My son is probably a little young for it, but I can't see him getting all that much fun out of squeezing a teddy bears hand over and over and listening to it be an electronic yes-man.

Also, it's internal clock is not all that good and if you don't plug it into your computer to update it every week or so, pretty soon it will be telling your kid it's time for breakfast at 4:00 in the morning.

It's not a terrible toy but you're probably better off with toys that engage your child's imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids love it!, June 26, 2007

Pooh was a gift for my daughter who is two and she loves it. She is so amazed that Pooh says her name and all the things she loves like chocolate milk. My son also loves it (he's 4) so when he wants to play with Pooh I just download his name and favorite things. It's quick and easy. If I can figure it out anyone can!

They both love it! Pooh is very soft and cuddly and you can program 3 names in addition to your child's name. You can also program your child's favorite foods at breakfast lunch and dinner. He also knows when it's time to eat, take a nap or bedtime. I'm just as impressed with it as my kids are. This is a great toy!

I bought this for both of my sons who are 3 and 1 1/2. They were very easy to program. It was nice to have the option to program my older son's with games and songs that were tailored to his age and the same for my little one. I also sewed a felt letter on Pooh's shirt with each of my son's first initial so it was even more personalized and we can tell them apart. I know that my boys are going to love them on Christmas morning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable!, March 18, 2007
This review is from: Disney Plush Pooh Knows Your Name (Toy)
I absolutely loved it!!! Very easy to personalize and even changed the message without a problem. (for those who had a problem, it probably was the demo batteries, replace them and everything should be fine) My niece LOVED it... was fascinated because Pooh knew her name, her favorite people, color, food, etc... much nicer than the pre-programmed electronic sing-a-long plush.

One suggestion, give this to your child a few days before their birthday... Pooh countdowns to their birth date (and plays a birthday song as one of the options)!

Very cool product!

I had no trouble using the program and doing the download.

I didn't really like the way he said my son's name.

The Toys R Us had several remaining Poohs, but they had no Elmos or Doras left

I have a daughter, Lucy. That's a pretty common name. However Pooh isn't programed with that one. He knows a lot of names that I've never heard of, but is missing quite a few common ones. The customer support for this error is poor. I also had the download issues that the other customers reported even though I am using XP. I had high hopes for this toy after its write-up in Time, but I was very disappointed and am returning it.

4.0 out of 5 stars addendum to prior review, December 16, 2005

Well, I took the doll to work with me and used a 2000 sp4 test box to download the data to. It worked with no issues. The doll itself is extremly soft and will surely be a long time friend to my daughter.
I would have given it 5 stars but the issues with XP sp2 and the lack of customer support regarding this issue drops it down. I also would like to know who came up with the meal choices for kids. Neither hotdogs or chicken nuggets are listed for any of the meals. Maybe I am a cruddy Dad who feeds my kid bad food, but i have never met a kid who didn't like hotdogs or chicken nuggets. Oddly enough, crumpets is listed as a meal choice. Hopefully there will be a way to update the software in the future.
