I purchased this doll after reading the various reviews on Amazon. I was looking for a bath specific Ariel doll for my daughter. It is a great doll. She has the temperature sensitive decals on her tail and abdomen, plus a temp sensitive streak in her hair. When the doll hits warm water, the decals disappear and the purple streak in her hair turns to blue.
Some complained that the decals will only reappear in "ice water". That's simply not the case. I've had the decals appear on their own when the doll wasn't used for a bit of time, or my daughter just sets the faucet on the coldest setting and runs the doll under it. So I really have no complaints on the decals. However, I do have a complaint about the doll. The hair. I find that she is losing strands of hair. Now, it's not like the doll is going bald or there are bald spots, it's just that strands are loose. What happens? They either end up in the bathwater or, what happens most of the time, Ariel gets a rat's nest in her hair at a longer point than the rest of her hair. I've given her 2 trims to eliminate these "nests". Also, I find that the hair mats or sticks together a little bit when you bring the doll out of the bath water. So I would have preferred that the manufacturer use a different material for the hair. But overall, I think it is a good product for bathtime.

My daughter has become a big Ariel fan here lately and so when we saw this toy in the store, we thought it would be fun. I must say, my daughter does love the toy, but the color change decals haven't worked since we brought it home. Unless my daughter plays in the freezer, it's unlikely she'll ever be able to see the decals (which are minimal anyway) because the only way they even start to show up is if you stick Ariel in the freezer. I recommend this toy for fun in the bath, but if you're particulary excited about the color change feature - forget it.

In order to get the decals on her tail and body to show up I had to put her in the freezer... it said warm or icy water but no kid takes an icy bath.. However she loves ariel soo much that even though the decals didn't show up she still loves her and wants to keep her... A little disappointing but at least she's happy and we can throw her in the freezer anytime.

She got this for X-mas last year and she still plays with her at every bath. The doll has held up well and doesn't retain water or get icky from being in the shower. My daughter especially loves that she has real hair to wash while I'm washing hers. Bathtime is incomplete without her Ariel!

My daughter loves Ariel, so this was really the only option when it came to pool toys.

Decals, what decals?,

My daughter has a great time with this doll in the bathtub. My big problem with it is that the decals that are supposed to appear/disappear with warm and cold water stopped working after the first week. She also has turquoise streaks in her hair that should change color - that stopped working, too. So we thought we'd try filling up one side of the kitchen sink w/ ice water (as we obviously couldn't try ice water in the bath), and the other side with warm. This didn't work either!
My daughter does usually have fun with the doll regardless of the decals, purely for the fact that it's Ariel. Though the decals really did frustrate her at first. Now that she doesn't expect them to work, she likes the doll again. That being said, any Ariel doll would suffice as a bathtoy.

My five year old usually loses interest in toys quickly, but the Ariel Bath Beauty Doll has been played with consistently for months. She loves to take her in the bath, play with her in the sink and take her to the pool. The toy is durable and Ariel's hair stands up to the frequent shampooing and styling she's subjected to.
We have purchased several dolls to give as birthday presents for 3 to 5 year olds and it's always a hit. This is a great toy for any little girl who likes Disney Princesses or any fashion dolls like Barbie.

This is a great product! My daughter always wanted to bring dolls in the bathtub that were not made to get wet. Ariel goes in the bathtub each night, as well as the swimming pool. She is durable and well-loved by my 4 year old.

I'd been reading reviews and been aware of the imperfection of the toy when it came to changing colors, but we ordered the doll anyway because this was the only chance to get it before Christmas.
Interestingly all the other reviews said that you have to stick the doll in the freezer in order to make the necklace and the patterns on the body to appear. It was the other way around with our doll. All the extra features/colors are visible until you stick it in hot water. However our toddler girl loves the doll, and unless you're purchasing this doll strictly because of the color changes, this imperfection is not bothering at all...

We have both an Ariel bath doll and a Cinderella bath doll. My two daughters have tons of fun playing with their princesses in the tub. Great for make-believe.
The color-change features work part of the time. My daughters and I don't mind them much. Every once in a while one of my children notices a print on her tail, and it's an exciting surprise. I have an issue, though. I set Ariel out to dry after every bath, but her hair smells musty and disgusting. We've tried shampooing her hair, but it still smells. My kids still love her, but I don't really want to keep that hair around much longer. Perhaps I'll try some creative solutions to get rid of the smell and germs... Also, be sure to squeeze all the water out of Flounder (the fish) after every bath. Like all of the squirting bath toys, if left wet, they grow mildew inside. One day, you may squirt it, and an awful surprise may come out. So, all in all, a fun toy for the bath, but there may be some cleanliness issues with her hair. |
