Wows from kids and parents, curses from the baker...,

I purchased this based on firm instructions from my soon-to-be four-year-old daughter, who was thrilled at the prospect of the 6 princess figurines on the cake for her party. When it arrived, there were no directions, although the description had promised complete instructions. I wrote to the vendor and received a .pdf of the instructions in color within 2 days of my email. The good: this a a big hit at the party. All the kids loved it, and I received a lot of compliments from the adults at the party. The disappointing: the turrets are not solid plastic as I had thought- they are very thin plastic sheets that you have to roll-up and "secure" with a fairly chintzy tab/slot system. There are solid plastic collars at the bottom and top that each roll fits into. Cutting the roll to fit the height of the cake is not easy, as it is hard to judge how it will fit before you cut it. The entire arrangement balances somewhat precariously on the corners of the cake. Serious frosting fill/repair was required. The rest of the decorating wasn't too bad, although there are some blank spots on the cake that need frosting or sugar flowers. If you are like me and think it looks pretty easy until you actually try it, just buy the pre-made sugar flowers at the craft store. I used the Wilton butter cake recipe for the cake, strawberry cream for the filling and the traditional buttercream recipe. I think you could use a regular cake mix, as this is a pretty sturdy structure, but the store-bought frosting will be too soft. I also bought the Wilton frosting colors recommended in the instructions. We made the base color pink instead of white and used violet for the trim. It looked nice, and now I have a life-time supply of these food colors. So, in all a very attractive cake after all the fuss of assembling it is over.

Pretty Cake,

I made this cake before, true you do have to ask the seller for instructions. You cut and stack cake. It's not that hard and the cake is very pretty. It cost less to buy this kit than buy the figurines individually, they are pricey. The kit comes with them all.

I used this cake kit for my daughter's 4th birthday. I used a 10 x 10 (2) and a 6 x 6 (1) cake to build the castle. Since the turrets are plastic sheets that you fold, I also scotch taped them to secure them further. I put purple drop flowers around the bottom edges of the 10 and 6 inch cakes. The cake got great reviews even though I did not include the purple roses and green bushes as seen in the photo. I was really happy with the results. I would recommend to sticking with what works well with for you. I also added heart sugar shapes to the castle which were a nice touch. If your skills are limited like myself, I would go with the less is more approach. The turrets are already beautifully decorated.

I read the reviews about this and was a little nervous that I wouldn't be able to do this... It came out beautiful... I was so impressed with myself.. If you have common sense then you won't have any problems with this..the hardest and most annoying part was baking the cakes... but other than that it was a breeze.I actually took another reviewers advice and used the buttercream frosting from Michael's crafts and it looked professional. Everyone at my daughter's birthday was so impressed ...

I have used this to decorate for 2 granddaughters and a daughter of a friend at work. It is very easy to use and looks great when you are done. The directions call for using a 9x13 pan and I just use a 6" square and an 8" square instead.
The little girls like having all of the characters to play with after they eat the cake and the parents like having a princess frame for their little Princess. Thank you. I hope to be able to get a hold of another one of these when I get another request for the Princess Castle.

This product is very hard to use. It is not a real castle but small pieces of plastic film that you have to incorporate into the actual cake. My cake designer had to get real creative to make this work.
The instructions are not included as the description says. You have to email the seller separately to provide (which they did very prompltly).

The photo looks great which is why I ordered two toppers for my girls. I was sure it was just like the photo and I would have to put together, all I got was lite plastic pieces that go around and on top of a square cake. Don't bother Save your money .....

I wish that I had read the reviews on this kit before I wasted over $20.00 on it. By the pictures it looks like the turrets are solid plastic, when they are just a flimsy piece of film. My sister-in-law has a catering business and does a fabulous job with all of the cake challenges that we have thrown her in the past. After 2 days of trying to get the turrets to stay in the cake, she finally called me in tears. I had to rush to the grocery store 2 hours before my daughters party and buy a generic cake that didn't match the theme or the colors. We were all so disappointed!!!!!! After all the supplies we had to buy for this cake (the topper set, specific icing colors, cake box, ingredients, etc.) We spent about $50.00........for nothing.....and still had to buy a cake that was horrible for about $20.00, just so she could have something to blow her candles out on!!!! Such a great idea for an awesome cake, but horrible quality.

I purchased this castle cake for my daughter's fourth birthday. The item description didn't say anything about the quality of the towers. They are just sheet plastic (very floppy like paper) and you have to assemble them to the plastic tops. They kept wanting to cave in on themselves and it was hard to get them to stay round. I had to use a lot of scotch tape to keep them together and they tear easily. The instructions for the cake doesn't tell you that it's a good idea to put a support system between the top and bottom layer. The top layer of the cake sunk into the bottom layer, making a lopsided castle. I didn't feel like the quality of the set was worth the price they charge for it. Fortunately, my daughter was just thrilled to have a princess cake and didn't care so much about the quality.

cute,

I am by no means a cake designer but this was so simple, I made 2 basic cakes and cut one in half to make a large base and tower. Be prepared to use a lot of icing to keep it in place, but it makes a very cute cake. My daughter loved it.
