Product Description

Product Description

Disney Princess Ariel's Floating Fountain Playset: Ariel's fairy tale dreams come true on land, but the real magic happens under the sea! The Disney Princess Ariel's Floating Fountain Playset captures this world with water-play fun. Place the set in the tub and squeeze the seashell-shaped pump for a majestic water show - when activated, water will spray from the pretty pink top as well as from the mouths of the two adorable fish who live in the bottom of the fountain! Grab the top of the fountain and rotate to spin the unit and the two swing chairs that hang from the decorative arms. Clips hold the small dolls in place; one Ariel small doll is included (others are sold separately). The pool is the perfect spot to swim with the fish or slide off either side into the ocean - or bathtub - depths below! Bright colors match Ariel's signature palette, while translucent materials add touches of fantasy. It's magical fun above and below the sea! Includes one small mermaid doll. Doll cannot stand alone.

So I took a plunge, having seen all the bad reviews here. My daughter really wanted to buy it. She had saved up her money for a long time and now she was ready to get it. Thanks to all the description for why it is not working I figured I could fix those issues easily. And here is what I did:

1) Got expanding insulation foam
2) Sprayed the foam into the lower cavity after assembly.
3) Let it cure over night.
4) Trimmed off the excess foam that came out the surface holes. (In hind sight I should have payed attention to the foam label saying to only fill 50% of the void)

And that, I think, did the trick. It gave the fountain just enough added weight to float steady and straight in the water, and best of all, the foam prevented any water from accumulating in the fountain pan, despite the wild splashing of two kids in the bathtub. They had a really great time! I am glad I did not let the bad reviews deter me from having my daughter have her long sought after vision.

Overall, it is a five star toy, minus one star for having to apply the fix and wait a day, comes out to four stars.

Hope this is helpful for someone else.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
My daughter loves Ariel so I was so excited to get this...what a disappointment! First of all, the upright piece that holds the swing hooks into the base does not stay in place and when you try to push Ariel in the swing, the whole piece spins around. Also, the pieces are made of very thin plastic and are low quality. Ariel is much smaller than the picture indicates. Her bra is literally glue with glitter on it, which chips off after a few uses!

The fish do squirt water but the "fountain" piece is inconsistent with squirting water; sometimes when you squeeze the purple shell to squirt water, nothing comes out and when it does, it sprays in every direction, getting water in the child's face and on the floor. The tubing that feeds water from the shell pump to the squirters is impossible to get all the water out of.

But the worst thing about this toy is that it doesn't stay floating on top of the water like it's supposed to for very long. If water goes up the slide, the base gets flooded and the whole thing sinks and falls apart! Don't buy this - it's a waste of money and Ariel sure does end up under the sea at the bottom of the bath tub!

Don't waste your money this toy will "float" for about 30 seconds then tilt over then sink to the depths and take Ariel with! Very dissapointing water play toy. Save yourself the trouble and walk on by.....

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Product Development Meeting:

Product Development Head: Okay, now that I have presented my plans for the Arial floaty toy, are there any ideas anyone may have to improve this product?

Random Product Developer #1: Yeah! (Raises hand and bobs head excitedly)

Product Development Head: Go ahead.

Random Product Developer #1: Let's put holes on top of it!!!!

Random Product Developer #2: (Jumps out of seat and shouts) OMG THAT'S AN AMAZING IDEA!!!!

Product Development Head: What? That's absolutely absurd, why would you put holes on a flotation toy?

Random Product Developer #1: I don't know, it just sounds like a great idea!

Product Development Head: Well... It doesn't make any sense, but I can't argue with your logic... Okay let's do it!!!!

----------------------------------------------

Sounds like a ludicrous scenario? Well after using this toy, you'll probably feel like that's how they came to the decision to put holes on top of the toy base as well! You can probably imagine what happens to this toy within a minute of play... IT BECOMES THE TITANIC!

Love the toys look, it's cute, it's fun, it's Ariel! Seriously though guys... I have a 30yr Gilligan Island toy that STILL to this day floats great, and straight out of the box this one is a sinker... Somethings really wrong with that.

Oh who who am I to complain? It's cute and the squirter works great (until it sinks in to oblivion after a few squirts that is)! But where's Flounder at?

God Bless ~Amy

This toy sinks!!! I saw where one viewer wrote how she fixed it using spray foam that she allowed to cure overnight but still who wants to go through all that trouble for this rinky dinky toy?? Even if I did get it to float the water barely comes out of the top when pumped and does not come out of the little yellow fish at all. I should have realized that the box was marked Mattel and to stay far away from it. I have come to find with two daughters that Mattel products, like Barbie, are cheaply made.

My daughter got this as a gift when she turned 4 and she loved it and my husband and I hated it.

It squirts water ALL OVER! Honestly, who cares if the silly thing floats, it squirts water ALL OVER the place!!!

Well, even if you're okay with that, it is really cheaply made and doesn't stay together, before I knew it I was finding little yellow bead pieces from the chair supports all over the house.

My daughter loves Ariel and loves playing with the tiny figurine even though some of the paint has chipped off.
