The CDs are endless fun.,

This review is from: Disney Princess Music Player Storybook (Disney Princess (Random House Hardcover)) (Hardcover)
My preschool aged daughters love the little plastic CDs and their player that comes with this book. In the past year, I am sure that the CDs haven't missed a day of play. Each of the four CDs features about 7 songlets to accompany one of the four featured princesses' stories. The songs are all instrumental - either classical (Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Mozart, Waldteufel, Mendelssohn, Straus and Boccherini) or Disney songs. The player is sturdy and can be carried along everywhere. It's great fun for little girls. The book...well, it's just okay. It features four stories: Belle: A Love Uncovered (about her building a friendship with Beast), Ariel: The Music of Love (about Ariel daydreaming herself into a fantasy wedding), Aurora: A Dream Come True (about Aurora planning her engagement party and decorating the castle for Prince Phillip) and Cinderella: The Best Intentions (about Cinderella planning her wedding the way she thinks it should be done, not Prudence's way). The Belle story is the most solid, the others are vapid. These aren't meant to be plot heavy stories, just some mindless Princess fun. The book is saved by the big colorful pictures of the princesses dressing up and being fabulous - what little girls want to see. But, I'd personally much rather read other Princess stories to my girls - ones with some kind of plot or problem solving with out the aid of a Fairy Godmother. My other issue with this book is that the music doesn't quite sync up. Some of the musical selections are too long and others are too short. I find myself rushing to get through some of the sections to keep with the music and then in other sections waiting. As it stands, the CD player and the book have been used separately for the most part because used together is more of a hassle than anything.

My daughter received this book for her 3rd birthday. Her Mom Mom purchased it and we were both initially disappointed. I thought the CD's would have lyrics. My mother-in-law thought they narrated the story. Instead, they simply play very brief excerpts of movie songs. But who cares about us? My daughter loves it! She carries it everywhere and it entertained her for hours on a recent road trip. My 1-year old son also loves playing with the CD's (and chewing on them!) so I can attest to it's durability as well.

I can't believe that I'm the first to review this book as it is so awesome! It includes 4 princess stories, 4 little plastic CD's with classical music, and a little player for the CD's. The player comes attached to the book along with a holder for the CD's so they won't get misplaced (hopefully). My almost 4 year old daughter loves changing the CD's to match the story. Although the music is a little bit loud when trying to read the story aloud, her enjoyment makes up for the slight annoyance to me. The stories are pretty good, and they have large colorful pictures. They are about Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, and Belle. How can you go wrong with Princesses? I really recommend this if you have a little princess who loves music and reading.

how much did the wedding industry pay Disney for this?,

The music player that comes with this story book is delightful. It uses a play CD that little girls can maneuver into the CD player with no worries about damage. The tunes are lovely classical bits (or classic Disney songs) that coordinate with the stories. It's a delight to see my daughter able to use her music player.
Unfortunately the clever music player is vastly outweighed by the incredibly awful stories in the book. The first one is a perfectly nice story about Belle learning to be friends with the beast. However the princesses in the other three stories have apparently had their brains sucked out. They obssess at great length about their weddings -- and that is ALL they think about. They're worried about the invitations, whether they'll have a nice dress, what will the cake look like. There is no plot, unless it's that they're worried the invites won't get done on time. And, of course, there's a fairy godmother to take care of that. Anything interesting about the Princesses and their stories is gone from this book. It's a great tool for teaching a little girl that she should start obsessing about the trivial details of her wedding when she's still in her early single digits.

My 2 1/2 year old got this book as a bribe to be good in costco (I know, bad mothering) and it is her absolute favorite new "toy". She loves to take the player off the book and put in the four cds...over and over again. It drives me crazy, but she loves it. In fact, she actually mostly ignores the book and just shakes her booty to the music. The music is without words, and not the sort of thing adults would listen to, but she is enthralled. My favorite "toy" purchase this year!

It could be perfect but...,

If it only had headphones, volume control and read the story along with the child and had the princesses sing songs. It is an adorable little player and the book is great too. BUT....
My 3.5 year old daughter wanted to hear singing princesses or the story read to her. She was disapointed. I wanted a headphone option and volume control. We are taking ours back tomorrow.

This product was a bit misleading. I assumed the music player also told the story while the child followed along, it doesn't. The music is fun for younger kids but the story is way to hard for a younger reader. My 4 year old Neice loved it but couldn't work any part of it herself. I'd say it's age appropriate for 8+. Also, it's a bit expensive for basically a story books that plays some music. I wouldn't recommend it.

This is kind of a dud. The music is sometimes longer than the part you read to it, so you have to wait for the music to end in order to continue. The stories are okay, but this is one princess storybook, that I actually have a hard time getting my little girl to pay attention to until the end.

Friends of my parents gave this to my three-year-old daughter -- I personally don't buy any of the Princess stuff myself -- and she immediately went bananas for the music player. We basically ditched the storybook, since my daughter doesn't know who any of the princesses are and I'm in no hurry to read inane stories about them, and let her play with the music player. And that part of the toy has been an unqualified success. She loves that she can operate it all by herself, since she is not otherwise supposed to touch CDs or our stereo, and likes acting out what *she* thinks the songs are about. So, in that way, it has become an imaginative toy for her. And the small snippets of classical and Disney music on the CDs are perfectly pleasant to be around. It's great for keeping our daughter occupied in the car, for example.
