a creative idea but quality fails to deliver the fun,
By A Customer
This review is from: Disney Princess Storybook and Movie Projector (Hardcover)
I bought this item intending to read the story to my two kids while showing sildes on the wall, so that the two don't need to competing the reading space. Unfortunately, the image on the wall is too small and the quality is poor (even though I adjust the focus). You need to sit within one feet from the wall to be able to see the 2"x3" picture. The projector in this story bundle is a good idea but is frustrating to operate it. However, the book is still very well written. The story is simple enough for my two pre-schoolers to follow.

mini-projector has problems,

This review is from: Disney Princess Storybook and Movie Projector (Hardcover)
This is a frustrating toy in that it has tremendous appeal and a great concept but it does not work terribly well. A large hardback book contains five condensed stories (Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White) and is attached to a special holder for a mini-movie projector and two mini-reels for each story. In the book, colorful illustrations and large-print words are accompanied by margin pictures showing which of 16 projector images complements that portion of the text. This is all done very well; however, the projector is SO mini that it needs to be very close to the wall or screen in order to be seen (2-3 inches) and the image is very small. Also, the room needs to be very dark, which makes it difficult to read the story, even with the projector's second light turned on. The best way to use this would be to have your child sit in a completely dark closet looking at the pictures while you sit outside reading it loudly :-)
This was a great idea but does not work too well, unfortunately. Definitely do not pay full price!

Buy it as toy,

This review is from: Disney Princess Storybook and Movie Projector (Hardcover)
The summary: buy it as toy -don't expect to get a lot of reading out of it.My child loves this book. She likes the Disney Princesses, and gets a big kick out of operating the projector and making up stories for the pictures. I agree with other reviewers, the light level in the room has to be too low to read in order to view the pictures, which right there defeats the purpose of the set, which is to be able to read the book AND view the projected images at the same time. Maybe an older kid that is not that interested in the pictures would do better with the reading side of it. I still give it a high mark because of the many hours my kid has spent playing with it. She is rough on the projector and the disks and they have taken it well so far.

not worth it,

Good idea, bad execution. The projector is all but impossible to see. Even in a completely darkened room the image was hard to pick up. Following along with the book is even harder.

Images are very small and quality is not very good, however,my little sister love to play with this book in closet. Small light can be used for reading, too(but need to let them know it's not good for eye!). This may be perfect for kids' pajama party also.

horrible projector,

My three-year-old has just entered the 'princess' stage, so we've been buying a lot of Disney DVDs, books & toys, lately. This is the second product in one month where we've really felt ripped off by Disney. The projector image is so tiny and blurry, its sometimes impossible to recognize the characters. Its obvious from the reviews that this is the norm, so it seems Disney knowingly is selling a defective product. I would have rather paid slightly more money to have a product that actually did what it supposed to. Buy a 'plain old' picture book instead, your children won't be risking eye strain looking at it.

Great idea, but the images are so tiny when projected and blurry. The book itself is not worth the money so if the projector isn't so great--its not worth it. The Princess Music Player is much better, the girls are playing with it daily while the projector sits unused.

I first purchased the Lion King projector book and my daughter (almost 3) loved it! The image is not HUGE, but what do you expect from a tiny plastic "projector"? We lay in bed and she projects the images onto the ceiling. Since we do this at bedtime and the lights are off, I use her flashlight to read the book and it does not affect the visibility of the images. This book keeps kids interested in story time, makes them feel autonomous because they control the projector, and helps little ones out with their fine motor skills and number recognition (the images are numbered). We have several books in the series and the only thing I don't like is that the small discs can be easily lost, but that's the case with all toys that are comprised of small pieces.

Disney Princess Storybook and Movie Projector,

ISBN 1575849399 Disney Princess Storybook and Movie Projector - Requires 2 AA/LR6 batteries. Marked for ages 4 and up. Though it is not marked on the book itself, please know that the picture disks are about the size of a quarter and can be choking hazard to small children. At first glance, this is an adorable book and that alone might tempt you to buy it. Think twice before deciding.
The classic Disney stories of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Snow White, are told in familiar detail. Accompanying the book are ten picture disks - two for each story - and a projector with a built-in reading light. The picture disks are small, as are the projected pictures themselves. This is not made to project on a distant wall, but on one at close range. The light on the side on the projector makes it possible to read while using the projector. This works, to a degree. It isn't flawless and parents will dislike it way more than kids will. The disks are easily lost and the built-in light is not very powerful. The text is nothing out of the ordinary, very close to (if not exactly) the text you'll find in other Disney editions; one small addition are the numbers alongside the text, telling the reader when to click the projector to change to the next picture. No author or illustrator is listed on the book, though adapter Rita Balducci is - but I'm not sure what she's adapted because the text seems very, very close to what I've read elsewhere. The illustrations, like the images on the disks, are straight out of the movies. One of the most attractive features of the book is the size of it, at 9" x 12.5", which allows for a large font (easier to read in dimmer light) and lots of images scattered throughout. - AnnaLovesBooks

Don't buy - Anyone who bought this ought to be refunded,
This review is from: Disney Princess Storybook and Movie Projector (Hardcover)
I have never bothered to write a review before on Amazon, but this book is so blatantly bad that feel the need to tell others to avoid it. Like many others who commented, my daughter was very excited to watch the wall projection while we read the book. When I saw that the image was the size of a postage stamp, I figured I was doing something wrong. And I too tested it in a dark room and saw that it was the only was for it to work. My 5 year old, of course, got very upset and I explained to her that it wasn't working properly and I would try to make the image bigger. After numerous futile attempts at refocusing, I looked at the back of the book to see what the image was supposed to look like. HEY - LOOK !! There is an picture of a happy girl watching a big, beautiful image on the wall, casted by the projector. THIS TO ME IS THE MOST ANNOYING PART OF IT ? Why the heck would a company blatantly mislead people like this ?? To me it's borderline fraud. My guess is that by the time the makers of this dud of a product realized that the image quality stunk, they were too far along with the manufacturing process to stop it, so they decided to lie to people by painting a fake image on the book. Anyway...so my next move was to think that the battery was weak, so I opened the projector up to replace it. (Maybe that was why I couldn't replicate the beautiful image advertised on the back). After I did that, the bulb stopped working. Daughter REALLY UPSET NOW - Daddy just broke projector. I was debating bringing this hunk of junk to the hardware store to get the bulb replaced. But before I did that I thankfully had the presence of mind to check Amazon for the reviews, which confirmed for me that this item is no good and it nothing to do with my focusing skills. Where the heck would we be without the internet?? It says manufacturer is Reader's Digest, licensed by Disney. If I had any time in my day I'd apply for a refund, but I have used up all of my weekend's free time on this review. Thanks to everyone for your helpful reviews !!
