I was willing to work around the load issues other were having just to have an expandable memory MP3 player for so little. But the Mix Max was DOA and wouldn't even take a charge, no power up- nothing. A bit harder to work around and a greater disappointment. So that little I spent seems like a gigantic waste, Also I guess I missed where it was going to be a previously owed or used unit, the clam shell had been cut open and everything removed from the bags (opened) then repacked and taped back together. I wasn't expecting much, but really?

I had to write a review because I saw two people who have given this 1 star. I gave this 4 stars because you can not read the internal memory using Windows 7. However, I can't say that I'm suprised since I believe this item first came out in 2006. There is a few things that I will explain that will make this a worth while purchase.

1. It has an internal 512 mb of memory. You can read the internal memory by attaching it to the computer using the included USB cable. However, I found out that my Windows 7 computer will not reconize the device. My Windows XP computer WILL read the device. If you have the SD card in the device, the computer will see the internal memory as well as the SD card memory so you can load data on both memories just by connecting the MP3/Video player.

2. It will not accept a SD card larger than 2 GB. I tried a 4 GB card and the device would not read it. I also read some where that SDHC cards would not work. My 4 GB card was a SDHC, so if this is the reason it didn't read the 4GB card or whether it just won't read a card larger than 2 GB, I cannot tell you. So I would recommend getting a 2 GB SD card and you should be fine. I use the SD card for movies and the internal memory for music. You can do whatever you want, but I have found this works well. I can get about 4-6 movies on a 2 GB SD card.

3. It took me a while, but I found some software that converts DVD's to the Mix Max Player. It is called Magic DVD Ripper. IF you Google it you should be able to download a trial version that gives you 5 free tries. You can convert as many DVD's on each try as long as you keep the program open (Opening up the program and using it is considered one use).

3 of 7 people found the following review helpful By Jenny L. Carver on December 15, 2009
I purchased 2 of the High School Musical Disney Mix Maxes with movie max clips along with 1 Priates of the Carribean Mix Max with movie max clip and the packages all said that you can download video and audio media from the Disney Mix Central website for the device...however after purchasing several episodes of Hannah Montana videos on the Disney Mix Central website, I found that the videos are not supported and will not sync to the device. Disney Mix Central told me to contact Digital Blue for assitance in syncing the videos to the device......Digital Blue in turn, told me to contact Disney Mix Central because the videos are no longer compatible with those devices and they have no control over that...after countless hours of trying to figure out how to put the videos I purchased on the device or on a SD card, and after downloading and installing Windows Media Encoder9 (per Digital Blue)to convert the videos.... I still find that I cannot convert and sync the downloaded videos from Disney Mix Central to play on the Disney Mix Max devices. Disney Mix Central did refund the cost of my video purchases and insist I contact Digital Blue. This is a huge disappointment and I feel that I didn't get what I paid for.
So basically I purchased 3 glorified MP3 players that will play the movie that came with them or other expensive movies prerecorded on Disney Max Clips but I cannot download video from Disney Mix Central as the packages said I could. I call this a huge disappontment and a tremedous waste of my money and my time. The devices are clearly not what they say they are and if you try to contact customer support you will get a run around. I do not recommend purhasing one of these Mix Max devices.
