5.0 out of 5 stars The book made a fan out of me, October 8, 2009
This review is from: The Disney Song Encyclopedia (Hardcover)
Thank you to the authors for the wonderful gift they have created. I did not even realize what a fan of Disney songs I was until I read through this book. The care and poignant details surrounding each tune stirs such nostalgia, that although this book could best be used for reference, I found myself reading it cover to cover, hanging onto each word as though I were reading a novel. I would reccommend this book for anyone who has ever been moved by any Disney movie or song...it will take you by the hand as you stroll through your old favorites and stir within you the impetus to rediscover new ones. This book is also as ageless as it is timeless in that I had the most fun sitting down and going through it page by page with my children (aged 1 thru 9), listening to the memories they have already attached to the Disney songs of their generation.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Resource!, August 6, 2009
This review is from: The Disney Song Encyclopedia (Hardcover)
WOW! As with Mr. Hischak's other books, this Disney Song Encyclopedia is as thorough a treatment of the subject as you would ever want. All the songs, all the memories, and all the fascinating stories that accompany each song. An amazing accomplishment! Flipping through the pages, I was reminded of lyrics and melodies I hadn't thought of in years. What a shame that when many people think of Disney songs they think of Lion King. As wonderful a score as that was, there were so many that preceeded it and I am thrilled to revisit them with this book. Thank you Mr. Hischak and Mr. Robinson for the work and research you did. It's a wonderful trip down memory lane!

5.0 out of 5 stars Disney Song Encyclopedia a joy, August 5, 2009
This review is from: The Disney Song Encyclopedia (Hardcover)
Lovers of all that is Disney know how much music contributes to its movies, TV shows, and the rest. Hischak and Robinson's book is a wonderful and wide-ranging compendium of information about all that is musical Disney. The entries not only describe the music, but its larger context, including its contribution to the larger plot, the performers and covers, and lots more. My guilty pleasure was the Ballad of Davy Crockett, a chart hit written for the TV mini-series (although it wasn't called that then) from the 1950s starring Fess Parker. I still remember the words, and the tune. Anyone have memories of other Disney songs that evoke a time, a place, a mood, or a moment? (If so, you'll be glad you referenced them in this splendid book.)

5.0 out of 5 stars For Disney Fans Everywhere, November 29, 2011
This review is from: The Disney Song Encyclopedia (Hardcover)
How many Disney songs do you remember from your childhood and continue to love and sing as an adult? This book looks at all of them and through its detail and care, takes you by the hand and walks you through your memories. Classics like Cinderella, Bambi, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins and Pinocchio are explored as well as less-remembered ones such as Song of the South, So Dear to My Heart, The Happiest Millionaire, Summer Magic and The Gnome Mobile. There are also TV Themes from Disney shows, Broadway musicals and music from theme parks explored. For a Disney fanatic like me, this book is addictive, but anyone who has even had a brush with a Disney film will find themselves pouring over the entries.
